Got my new skimmer

What about the plain needlewheel model? How high would you have the top of the waterline in the skimmer body where the bubbles start to form?

I just ordered the 150 model which should be here in a couple of days. Question, where do you guys suggest the top of the bubble line should be on the inside of the skimmer cone? Instructions indicate it should sit in 8-10 inches of water, but they do not indicate how high you should have the water line inside the skimmer cone.

That's the same model I got. Where did you order yours from? I ordered mine yesterday from Reef Specialty and they said since these are so new, they are having them dropped shipped from the manufacturer until they have inventory on hand. I'm assuming the manufacturer is in China? Just can't wait, and am trying to figure out how long I need to wait. :-)

I ordered mine also from Reefspecialty last Friday. Coralvue is here in the USA. Mine will arrive tomorrow. I understand your anticipation for its arrival. I just broke my existing skimmer and therefore am running skimmerless for about 1 week. Needless to say, my tank desperately needs this skimmer ASAP.

I'm so jealous. I've never had as much anticipation for anything for my reef tank. :-)

coralvue is in usa, but these skimmers are made at honya shenizen in china.
for a cheapo crap skimmer, i like the new design, it actually looks like they stole the right assortment of design features this time and got it right...except the use of the crappy otp pump, but at least they are squeezing it for more power. and it looks like the neck can handle the impellar being mesh modded, which will be easier and more efficient with the plate style pinwheel.
will be watching this thread closely to see performance..
im thinking i might get one of the in sump models just to play with...
i have almost the same affinity for decent cheapo skimmers as i do for high end high performance skimmers,
especially as far as trying to do set ups for noobs on a budget.

@ $185 for the 150 model, and $235 for the 200 it also looks like a cheap candidate for replacing the pump with something nicer to have a fairly decent designed skimmer for cheap...
although a few bucks more gets you into the realm of all the SWC sicce pump skimmers which are a better deal as far as air draw and power.

This is a recirc rendition of the discontinued TS/PS line (same bubble plate, same straight shot pump orientation and pump) with a hurricone top. all the OTP pumps have been coming with the new pinwheel for a while now.

small version of my discontinued TS-120 (small version, baseplate cut). looks like they took some of this, some of the regular NW series, the DNW series and the hurricone series and made a frankecone!

the new model has a much better bubble plate design than that one, notice the new design takes up the whole circumfrence of the cyliner.
really the new version skimmer reminds me of an ATI with a longer cone transition, and crappy pump. :)

actually it doesn't. Look closer (at both still and functional pics)

you can see the bubble plate outside the riser tube is solid with no holes. the actual bubble plate is only the size of the riser (otherwise the riser would be pointless. the whole purpose of the riser is so bubbles/water will have to travel all the way up it without possible exposure to the skimmer output. increases contact time and reduces micro bubbles). sure there is more area under the bubble plate but mine is the small 4" diameter model with an OTP-1000. dont really think that matters. I see ZERO improvement on that end. the only improvement I see is the cone top and the pump comes with a pinwheel (which I purchased seperately).

This skimmer IS the new octopus recirc (replacing the DNW series) Should be everywhere very soon if not already. Premium aquatics already has them. they come in DNWB-110, DNWB-150 and DNWB-200. prices unchanged from the old DNW versions
