Got my TDS meter!

I got the TDS meter and guess what? IT'S USELESS! Apparently salt water has too much minerals or something so it measures as 999. which is as high as it goes. Both my tank water and just mixed RODI SW read at 999. My tap water is great though. Only 24. Glad it was only 72 cents.

Well, you wouldnt typically use a TDS meter to measure salt water.

I use mine regularly to test my tap water and the output water from my RO/DI unit. This allows me to easily verify the quality of the water that I'm using for top off's and water changes.

Guys, TDS meters are for FRESH water only!!!
ANY meter will read off the charts with saltwater



It's to test your tap water
and then test your RO
and then test your RO/DI

Like my readings are
Tap=1300
RO=50
RODI=0

So that means that my RO membrane is doing VERY well
And my DI is working perfectly too.

LOL, well then I guess I'm going to use it to test my tap water. I only bought that dam thing because it was $0.72 and everyone else bought one!!! Although, I am interested to see what mine reads since I use tap to fill my tank. I know, I know, but I dont have the moohlah for a RODI unit. Plus, I haven't had any issues using it so far. But then again, I dont have any SPS or anything too crazy!

What's the phos readings on your tap?
You may be able to get away with it till your rocks and sand become saturated with junk and then in one week all hell will break loose in your tank..
Not saying it WILL happen but it CAN happen...

I'm not sure what the phos readings on the tap are, but I took some of my tank water to the meeting and it tested 0 for phos. It could be though that maybe they were taken care of in my tank though?

I got mine in a couple days ago and tested my tap and ro. Tap read 231 and ro read 141. I'm wondering if this thing is junk or if my ro is bad.

I doubt tap would be 24 ppm. Bottled drinking water may not even be that low.

BTW saltykelly I have read that saltwater can ruin them.

As long as it's rinsed off well in some clean water no ill effects should remain on the tester.
If it's left in SW for long periods of time the two probes will corrode and thus ruin them..

ive received mine and was wondering if it was accurate?

tap water is 350ppm
ro unit is 47ppm which came from a water store and there tds reads at 2ppm (thinks there tds is wrong.)
deerpark bottled water is 79

Thats what I wondering. Mine says my ro is 141 but I don't think its that bad.
