stuck on glass. Grows. never thickens, but nodes branch. Doesn't hurt anything. Planted on glass where return outflow hits it. You wouldn't see it except it collects micro-stuff that clings on. Looks made of glass itself.

That's certainly a good direction to look. It's a huge and diverse group with a lot of members (obelia) that have some of the characteristics. I can't find a specific that is exactly that, but a variety of 'sea thread' is a possibility. I won't worry about it. But it's certainly a new one, certainly a colony type, and the group has an insane lot of variation, so it probably fits somewhere in there.
 
I agree, looks like a species of hydroids, I'd remove it. Great picture for future reference CJ.
