I find that doubtful, in this case. Emo has a 2" sandbed.

This would apply for the anaerobic portion of a sandbed. But, how anaerobic can a 2" sandbed get?

i was reading into this today...this only applys (like u said) with deep sand beds that are 6 inches or deeper..because oxygen cant get to it

To get to a true anaerobic portion of a sand bed most would contend you need to use a plenum. However I was not suggesting you had a total anaerobic sand bed. It was talked about in an article I posted and Ted said you had a 2" sand bed. Gases(ammonia, sulfur, nitrogen) get trapped in the sand bed and a sudden release is not good. Yes it would be more of a problem if you had 6" sand bed and stirred it up but I was talking about a combo of small things that may have added up to cause a large problem.

Just a random thought..where did you get the tank from? Was it new when you bought it or did you get it used?

Reason I ask is that you never know what someone else may have put in that tank that could be leaching back out and kiling your fish, heavy metals, cleaners, etc.

How do you really test for disease? BTW Emo i got a red light you can use to check for parasites that you may or may not have... Also you need to change your current tanks info... :'(
