gravity fed top off

Make sure to close the valve. Then when you start pumping water into the tank air will be pushed out of the second 5/8" tube. It won't come back up because the water will block the hole after the air has been pushed out.

Does that help Greg?

wow i just learned alot still lugging buckets but at this point in time i am renting realy dont want to flood a place that isnt mine so till i start to get lazy/own my own place ill keep adding water

I don't blame you mox. This is why I will only be using the system I just described. I own my own place but my wife wouldn't be happy if she had to swim to bed ;o)

Mox do you have a sump?

Flip jug, diffusion will cause the jug to be saltwater eventually. Bubbles will cause it to mix even faster. Keep that in mind. G1

Has anyone just flipped a jug and used the water cooler theory?

I used the flipped jug way, only I had a vinyl tube extension from the jug to the tank. It worked fine, but rigid tubing would work better. I seriously doubt that diffusion will be a problem unless you have a 20 gal water jug and if your tank only evaporates 1/2 gal per day.

I'm sure that's what he meant too, but for all intensive purposes my way was the same thing. It's just that the neck of the jug would be really long.;)

How "fail safe" is the nurce? Do you get it started by just syphoning the water out then allow air to be sucked into the other end when top off is needed? I would think that the most important part would be that the air intake hose does not move. Preferably attached to the sump permanently, with some sort of twist off for cleaning purposes.
