Gream/gold gigantea

Just got hold of a small cream/gold gig. Its about 4" across.

This pic is of it after It had just placed it in the QT tank. Its now firmly attached to the rock

Base is a green/blue colour

Heres a close up

You guys any idea if its going to stay this colour? It does not appear to be bleached.

LOL. I like to call mine mauve with yellow tips. My understanding (from reading and seeing photos of gigs in the wild) is that this is the most common color for gigantea.

But to answer the OP's question, it may change color SLIGHTLY depending on your lighting. I made the switch to LED and mine changed from brown to more of a mauve (seriously). But don't expect it to change drastically. And, I think it's more of how the LED light reflects -- gigs have some "sheen" to them -- than an actual color change. In other words, everything in my tank changed colors when I switched to LEDs. :thumbsup:

Regardless, it's a nice looking healthy gig. Congrats. Seems like they are to come by these days.

Did it actually change, or did it just look different instantly on changing the lighting?

Update two weeks on.

Nem started to bleached a couple of days after I acquired it, so have increased the light levels. It was initially getting around 40 par, but I've slowly increased this to around 100 par and the zoo appears to be coming back. Also my baby picassos seem to have taken a liking to it:bounce2::bounce1:

Nem update, 3 weeks.

Moved it to my DT, PAR is still around 100. Slowly colouring up.
I can see what appears to be a green neon tinge appearing in the tips so maybe its not going to be brown:spin3:

I've been feeding almost daily with small pieces of raw king prawn, salmon and mysis.

Can't see any blue myself tbh, but I won't be disappointed if your wrong

Those clowns are GORGEOUS! the carpet is very nice too

Update. Nem at 4 weeks

Although I can see pale neon green appearing in many of the tenticles, Its' still no where near as dark as my neon green gig in the back ground.

8 week update. Gig appears to be doing well. Has not moved an inch and is colouring up nicely

Wow, your S. Giganteas and onyx clownfish are gorgeous. I like how your clown swims from gig to gig. What size tank do you have? And how much flow?

Tanks is 55 gallons (English), which I think is about 65-75 US I believe, but don't quote me on it. Flow is provided by 2 6055 Tunze's and a 7095 conttroller.
