Great, I've been reading up on clam care for about 2 yrs and have always been pretty cautious with the detection of pyramid snails when clams are kept. Had my Derasa and Crocea for about 7 months and never had a problem with the predatory snails until 5 minutes ago. Went down to check the size of my sump to see if there was enough room for a skimmer upgrade. Since all lights were off, I had to turn on the room lights to view the sump and I glance over at the Derasa and what do I see, a pyramid snail on him.
I've had these guys for 7 months with no signs of the snails, I bought 2 Pohnpei Maxima from a reliable source that quarantines there clams and what happens!
Can those snails have been in my tank for 7 months without killing the Derasa & Crocea? Or is the likely culprit the new additions?
Okay there here and what can I do if the Derasa & Crocea are firmly attached to rockwork, how do I inspect their byssal gland for snails if they are attached?
Can I go the route of a wrasse to prey on them? If so, what's more effective - six line or juvenile coris wrasse?
I'm thinking the second scenerio is how the snails were introduced, so how do you guys and gals not stand on egg shells everytime you add a new clam into your tank?
