Green algae taking over

About five weeks ago I replaced flourescent lighting with metal halide. Since then I have had green fury algae taking over the tank. I bought twelve large mexican snails and have three turbo snails as well as seven or eight smaller snails. Been doing 10% water change every three days but nothing is helping. Any suggestions would be helpful.

i think i have the same problem its green algea all over the windows and gravel.

I made the same switch about a year back and will say that I have battled algae of all types more with halides versus flourescent. All the standard stuff - water changes, reduce nutrient import, increse nutrient export (good skimmer). Also cut back on the number of hours you run the halides and then increase slowly. You should be doing some type of acclimation anyway for your specimens. Other than that, I'm sure others here can give you more.

I have a good skimmer and have reduced lighting to seven hours a day. The picture above looks like my tank. Even the fox face is not making a dent. Hope for other suggestions.
