Green Birdsnest STN

Hello all! I'm new to this forum and started with reef tanks about 2 years ago. Recently I upgraded from a 55 to a 90. About a month ago I had an alk and PH swing causing some of my acros to start losing tissue. Now everything is fairly stable and some are recovering except my green birdsnest. It's losing tissue every day and at the same time it's at full polyp extension doing that. Anyone else experience the same? I've been doing weekly water changes of 10 gal to try and keep things fresh. Wish I had pics to post up as well. Will try to take some tonight or tomorrow morning before work.

I had a similar issue with mine. It was slow, so I left it alone. Over time it stopped, I guess because things were stable. Although, now, it still recedes where it's shading itself out. I believe that's typical.

If it's from your Alk and pH issue, keep things stable and let it be (while observing it daily). If the receding continues faster than it grows (i.e. You're losing the colony), then frag it. That's my opinion. I don't like the stress of fragging an already stressed coral, unless it's absolutely needed.

What's your alk, and are you carbon dosing? I have problems with birdsnest while other acros are thriving. I've realized that it's my alk being too high while carbon dosing. It's at 9, and very steady. I'm beginning to drop it with a goal of 7-7.5

my alk is about 7-7.5 and I'm not carbon dosing. Got the old fashion fuge full of chaeto in it. PH is between 8.18 and drops to about 7.9 at night. Weird thing is that I noticed I had some residue around my windows by the tank the other day. The building next to me was being worked on and they used pressure washers and all. I did a few water changes and things look a lot happier now. I had to frag off the birdsnest to 2 very tiny pieces that was left. hopefully they will grow out from there. I also went back to Reef Crystals and I don't think I will turn back this time. Was using Kent salt before.
