Green BTA, closing up every night???

I've had this GBTA for about 5-6 months. It wasn't all that green when I first got it. I've only had my sump/skimmer hooked up for about 2-3 weeks now.
I did start to notice a slight decline in its health about 1-2 months ago. I'm pretty sure it was the lack of skimmer, with added stress from a competing GSM, which I traded out for the lil B&W. It was starting to look bleached.

I've noticed a lot more blue/green coloration since the upgrade.

For some reason now, it closes up almost every night. sometimes for hours at a time. It seems healthy during the day. sometimes it IS open at night too.
Another problem is that there are (2) small green mushrooms (like the ones around it) right underneath it when it's open, but neither seem to mind.

here are a few pics:

here it is one time when it was done "pooping" a large shrimp, under 12k's:

I've cut back on feeding. It's probably been 2 weeks since the last shrimp (soaked in Selcon), and I feed silversides (also soaked in Selcon) once in a while too.
I know nems are supposed to close up to poop once in a while, but what do you guys think about mine?

thanks

I'm thinking maybe I should scrape those shrooms off?
You can see them in the last pic. Chemical warfare?

I run my Fluval 305 for carbon

Also:

Nothing but RO/DI
salinity= 1.025-1.026
temp= 78-80
nitrates= 0
PH= 7.9-8.1
Ca= 520 (I know it's high)

The only thing I add is 2-part Kent Ca/Alk buffer, maybe once a week or less.
