I had recently acquired a green bulb anemone and added it to the display For first week it was doing quite well. From yesterday its tentacles anre shrunk and not expanding for the last >24 hrs. Checked the water param : 1.026, NH4 -0, No2 0, No3 0 .1

I had a recent partial water change also. The tank is &% gallon. Has few corals, 6 peppermint shrimps, snails and a bicolor blemmy. The clown fishes are in quarentine so hasnt added yet.

What can I do to help ?

he has not accepted any foor yet. I tried brine shrimp, dried shrimp and silverside.

Now what ?? Is there any kind of infection I need to think of ?

You need to provide us with more information.

1.) How long has has your tank been setup for?

2.) What is your pH level at and does it fluctuate between day and night?

3.) Is there any possible predators in the tank that could be bothering it?

Can you provide us with some pictures too?

Thanks

Unfortunately, there is not much you can do at this point. They don't usually eat unless they are expanded at least a little. If it doesn't push out its stomach to accept the food, you can't feed it.

If it makes it through the first month then you are usually OK. Right now you need to be patient and make as few changes as possible. Hopefully it will bounce back tomorrow and everything will be fine. About the only thing you can do for failing anemones is water changes and adding carbon to you filter system. It doesn't sound like your system has been up long enough to need either of those.

Anemones are often slow to react to changes, both good and bad. Many times by the time you notice something is wrong, it is already too late to fix it.

Thanks Fender. He is still shrunk completely. But once ina while he opens up little bit. So not sure whether he is completely dead. If you look at the pic, there is a tear with some white thing protruding from the base of the anemone. What should I do now??

Take it out or wait ?

There is few peppermint shrimps, blue legged hermits and a coral banded shrimp in he display. I know pep are bothering the corals not sure about the anemone.

reefraj,

I am sorry to say that the cracks with white stuff coming out is decomposition. Since anemones are simple animals, one part can be dead while the rest still lives. Unfortunately, at this point it is only a matter of days or maybe hours before the decomposition spreads to the rest of the anemone. You might as well take it out now before you have to use a net to get all the pieces.

Very sorry. :(

If the anemone was just shrinking to expel waste, I would say wait. However, Phender is correct. If the foot is disintegrating, then there is no way to save it (and I have saved some seriously lost causes over the years, but never once it starts to disintegrate)- get it out of the water before the water quality drops. Believe me, as soon as you take it out of the water the smell will tell you that it is a lost cause.

I am not certain how old your tank is, but make certain it has been established between 6-12 months before trying to add an anemone.

I see nothing wrong with that anemone, mine does that every once in a while. Leave it alone, it is trying to get use to your light, the tank, and the water. When it comes out ..feed it.. untill then leave it alone. It looks just like any anemone while it is getting rid of waste. Mine looks so pathetic when its getting rid of its waste or changing its water.

If you look at the base of the anemone in the first few pictures you can see the white decomposing areas of the anemone.
