Green chromis or anthias

I have a 100 gallon display with a 40 sump/fuge and lots of corals mainly softies and clams.

Right now this is my stock list:

1 green clown goby
1 bangi cardinal
1 green chromis
2 small true percs
1 firefish

I was hoping to still add a small tang, mandarin goby "last" and around ~10 green chromis or 5 anthias.

What you all think?

Anthias are by far more beautiful in my opinion!!! They also come with a much larger price tag.
I love the Barletts and Sunburst Anthias!
I think you could get away with doing more than one tang though. My friend has a 125 gallon and currently has a Sohal, Blue Hippo, Purple, and Lopezi Naso. I think tangs are where its at personally.

I am only interested in one tang like a tomini, blue spot kole, or yellow if it gets down to it. I wouldn't mind spending a little here and there on the anthias like lyrtail, I don't like super expensive fish.

Can you add the anthias at different times?
Also can you add different types?

I started with a pair of lyrtails , a few weeks later added a larger female( smaller than the male) and they worked things out without any problems..

I have anthias and chromis.
They often all school together.

arammell,
I had a sohal in a 120 and they grow really, really fast and it darted from side to side all day. I gave it to a friend with a 300.

With the potential for anthias to change into males in the absence of one, it may be easier to put all the anthias in at once. Else, with a QT period for individual fish you could end up with all males (= bad).

O wow so they are like clowns, that makes things a bit easier, Some of the anthias are very distinctive between males and females. But I can see what you mean, 3 in qt one turns male, a month or so later the same thing now I have two males......... Ok thanks!

chromis are cheaper, hardier, and honestly look just as good in a big school. i'd go with the chromis. but don't get 10, always get an odd number, so get 9 or 11.

sorry to highjack but whats the reason for an odd number? :hmm2:

I have 4 chromis and like them very much. I think anthias and chromis both have there pluses and minuses. I like the colors on anthias more but they tend to not school quite as much and sit in one spot most of the time. Chromis aren't quite as colorful but school better and swim back and forth in the tank in a school like fashion if that is what your looking for. I have heard stories of them picking each other off but my chromis have not done that and I have had them for about 6 months.

Odd #'s are best for more aggressive type of schooling fish or same species. Same thing applies to yellow tangs and such. You get two one picks on the other who most likely dies off. 3 the aggresion is spread out more, the more #'s the better, I think after 10 it may not matter but I like the smallness and schooling of the chromis.

I might just get two lyrtails, one tang, around 15 extra chromis, then in about 6 more months get my mandarin.

I was thinking about the chromis cause i have a carpet anemone and would not want to loose a high dollar fish to a scooby snack!:)

I don't think the anthias would go into the carpet. My buddies tank is solid anemone's with a variety of small fish and he never loses them.
