Green Chromis with red sore/strip open wound

I have a green chromis that i just got from the lfs today and it has a red stripe verticly on its body and i don't know what it is. the strip is just starting to show and i want to fix the problem before it is too late. i can't isolate the fish because there are others in the quarantine tank right now with him. he looked fine when i brought him home and the others look fine, what is this and how do i fix it?

Did the pet store catch the damsel in a net? The lesion may just be from getting hit by the net frame durng the capture process.

However, green chromis frequently develop Uronema protozoan infections. The visual symptom of this is a reddish diaganol line (running along the scale rows). The lesion on your fish didn't look reddish in the picutre, so hopefully that isn't it (Uronema is very difficult to treat in green chromis). Hyposalinity increases the ability for Uronema to grow. So does the presence of bacteria (Uronema feeds on bacteria) so you often see mixed bacteria and uronema growing on lesions in fish kept in hyposalinity.

Looks like an infected lesion. These generally tend to be bacterial in nature. If it shows no improvement with increased nutrition, then you can consider QT and treatment with an antibx. Kanamycin, erthyromycin and nitrofurazone are all good broad spectrum choices.

Do you soak your foods in vitamins? garlic?. If not, you may want to consider it. It has made a world of difference for my fish. I strain their FROZEN food, place it in a cup, add gralice guard (just enough to suspend the food), add a few drops of Vita Chem and let it sit for a few minutes, feed and place what is left in the fridge. I usually mix enough for a few days worth of feedings. Just something to try.
