Chromis viridis has anybody had a problem getting large schools say 6 or so to live after a while being in your system?

Im wanting to keep 6 to 8 of these little guys but I heard that they tend to die off after a while and they have to be fed more often therefore creating a bigger bioload.

There are several old threads on this topic. Seems the concensus is that it works for awhile but then often breaks down with numbers dwindling until only one or two are left alive. Frequency/amount of feeding, size of tank, and tank mates seem to dictate the pace of the decline. Try the search function for other's experiences. I really wish this worked better as I loved having my little group of Chromis, until it started to get nasty.

I saw my school of 6 chromis dwindle one by one down to 2 over the first year. If they were the only fish added to a good sized tank, and had ideal tank conditions: well fed, plenty of hiding places, good parameters... I think your chances would increase dramatically. They only really school as juveniles.

i have had 10 in a 300g since Oct. 2010. I have a low rock level so they have plenty of swimming room up top. I also got them in very small.

I'm still keeping them in mind Im going to give them a try. I'll try to feed a low bioload food if possible I hear fish eggs don't produce near as much waste. I have a friend that has had 7 for the past 2 years with no deaths ill try it his way. He also has squamippinis anthias as well.

By "his way", you mean you'll try getting lucky? :D
