Green clown Goby? SPS KILLER?

Well today at the LFS I picked up a green clown goby. And in the back of my mind I remember reading something bad about them. I looked on Liveaquaria to get an idea... And said they pick at SPS.

At the moment my tank has ZERO SPS. So I'm not super worried... Plus the Goby is in the QT at the moment. So I can get it out of there easily and take it back to the LFS.

But honestly I really like it. Its cute, small, cheap, and easy to keep.

So are they SPS KILLERS?

Let me know your thoughts/experiences with these little guys.

Not exactly. They use SPS to lay their eggs. In the process, they nip the coral to make a spot for eggs. In a large wild colony the damage they do is minimal and within the tolerance of the colony. However, the coral specimens in our tanks are smaller and the conditions are less ideal. So, it can be a problem.

If I only have 1. Will they still lay eggs?

I have a pink striped one and he leaves the acro alone. He is in it a lot but I don't notice anything negative about it. He likes the GSP bed better.

Yes Snorvich after doing some more research/searching myself this seemed to be the biggest consensus. But will they still lay eggs if there's just one of them? Its not a pair. Just one lonely gloom Clown goby by himself.

I have kept them over the years. When they are solitary they are fine. But when they pair up is when they specifically do damage. And with my luck they always seem to 'nest' in your prettiest or most expensive corals.

I had pretty good luck keeping them solitary by getting the assorted colors. But then I got silly and started adding more than 1 of each color. They tend to find a colony and make that home.

I had a green clown goby with SPS for 5 years and never had any trouble with it eating the coral or laying eggs.
