green fluorescent protein infection

thanks for the link, G.

I haven't made it over to your pix on the Finger Lakes site yet. It would be great if you could post them here ;)

Somehow we'll need to work something out so I can look at this Poci with NightSeas equipment.

FWIW Jake mentioned that Pocilliporids usually infect Acroporiids and not vice versa, (perhaps) making my coral even more unusual....

Gary perhaps it was another pocillapora in your system. I had a number of poci spawns in two of the tanks and noticed my first "grafted" acro months later. Never really made the conection and at this point look at it only as a possibility. The acro that was really infected with it was sold to a local hobbyist who I don't see very much.

I wouldn't mind posting the pictures here, but have been warned and asked not to post any pictures. I stay away from sharing any of my fish, coral or saltwater aquarium related photos. I think there are a couple in my profile album.

Pretty sure this is what happened to my setosa. It is a little tough to pick up on camera because it is a small patch on the side but had a friend who is a much better photographer then I take some shots

I have seen this montipora for offered for sale as grafted. Did this one just start picking up the green blotches or did it have it before?

What can you share about this. Do you see the green show up on specific parts of the colony? Maybe new growth or a shaded part. What other corals are near this one?

Figured I'd bump this thread. I have a purple/blue acro that we've had for over 3 years at the museum. A year ago I fragged a piece of it and put it in our smaller tank where it and a neighboring ORA green birdsnest have both exploded with growth and started to grow into each other. Not long after they started touching did I see green splotches forming on different parts of the acro, especially in areas where it was encrusting. Pretty neat stuff to see if it is really incorporating proteins or zooanthellea from the other coral.

I forget what acro this is, but I was told that it was one of the first acros grown commercially in captivity and originally came from an aquarium in Germany and I don't think it ever naturally turns green.

I'd take a picture but I don't think it will show up well the way it is growing.
