Green Funk on Green Sinularia?

Anyone ever seen this? I scrubbed as much of it away as I could but the tissue was damaged underneath? What should I do short of fraging a piece to put in another tank before this puppy melts down? I just had a giant mushroom meltdown in the same corner of the tank and an algae bloom building...this is a fun hobby, right?

Hey there Krusty!
hard to tell from pics, but your other meltdowns may have infected it with a surface bacteria (like brown jelly on shrooms)
keep up with baster and soft bristle toothbrush and increase flow around it to stave off progressive infection.
if you can remove the coral, maybe an iodine or freshwater dip would help?

they are very hearty so it should be fine in long run, but let me know if it goes downhill and I can offer you a replacement.

The black stuff is very common on sinularia. I believe it's some kind of bacteria. It can spread very rapidly if not treated. I usually place the coral under high flow and/or cut the the infected pieces off so it doesn't spread.

I believe The Reef Aquarium 3 has talks about how to treat it.

How funny, I just got The Reef Aquarium 2 yesterday for my birthday-I will have to ask for #3 for Christmas ;) Anyways I did cut off the offending tissue and I guess I could always use just one more power head in the main tank...I have some cyano building up so I think I am going to treat the tank with the red slime remover. I have been overdosing DT's and just read in The Reef Aquarium 2 that all you need to do in an established tank is stir up the sand bed to feed your corals?!? Nothing like closing the barn door after the horses got out :0 Anyways thanks guys, and this sucker is mounted onto a 30 lb base rock do dipping it is out-but thanks Chris for the offer to help me replace this guy if that needs to happen, I will sleep better because this is actually one of my favorite pieces
PS Nichole: you see how well the peach colored sand mat polyps are doing in the pic, thanks again
