Green Gonipora help

I got this coral, not knowing that it's supposedly really hard to keep. It's about 2 months old now. It does better, then it does worse, then better again. Now it's looking really weird. Can anyone tell me what's going on by looking at these pics?

Don't know if you can tell by the pics. but on the right side of it, it's got this blob looking thing on it now. Just overnight.

looks like it's starting to "melt" or in other words die. what kind of lighting do you have over your tank? i've had that happen before and was due to insufficient lighting. either that or if it fell off that spot you have it and into another coral, it might have been stung. also make sure you hit it with a powerhead or a turkey baster and knock off all the crap that gets on the tissue. detruis likes to collect in between the extended polyps and "melts"the tissue that connects the colony. this is actually a good practice to perform weekly on all of your corals. you'll be suprised at how much healthier everything will look.

the other thing that could do that is if your new saltwater isn't mixed really well or if you add salt directly to the tank, a little undislved salt can burn and melt things as well.

hmmm...that's not good. I kinda thought that's what it was. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something that would spread to other corals. All my other corals look great. My lights aren't that great. I am working on upgrading them. I knew I would have to, that's why I put him up high. I have a power head going right over the top of him to keep stuff off and water moving. When I feed I turn everything off. Just hasn't helped. It may be a week before I can upgrade lights. Right now I have fluorescent only. 1 10000k and 1 50/50 bulb. Don't think he was stung. he's epoxied down to the rock. So I'm assuming he's simply dieing. anything I can do to help him? or does anyone wanna trade for a blue mushroom????

I use water from the lfs. Never add salt myself. Except when I first filled the tank, but there wasn't anything in there.

They aren't all that hard to keep.

They like moderate flow, but do need good lighting.

The idea blowing off the right side is very good.

Do you have a friend in the club who would take him until you get your lights upgraded?

Well, i've got moderate to high flow on him right now. Don't really know anyone in the club. I'm gonna try and upgrade my lights tonight. this is what I was looking at. Would this be pretty good? or complete poo.

Your goniopora seems like under brown jelly attack. You can try to dip it in iodine based dip, to see if it will stop brown jelly. What do you feed your goniopora? They are difficult care coral and will require extra attention.

well I had a friend of mine who is an 12 year experienced reefist take a look. he said it was either algae build up, or the brown jelly attack. He said the same thing about dipping it in iodine and I could try taking a fine toothbrush and "scooping" it off of the coral. I tried both. it was back on the very next day, completely engulfing my gonipora. I tried removing it again, and this time I noticed the goni was all white, with no green left in him. At this point I feared spreading to my other corals so I removed him and gave him a proper burial.

What do you have for flow in the tank? I also lost my first Gonipora due to not enough lighting in a 55G tank. I saw a 2 bulb T5 lighting setup from Zoomed at Petco for 75.00 over the weekend which would work great in a 29G.
