Pick up a bag of Chemi-pure Elite. That stuff really works. It will absorb your phosphates as well as polish the water.
You have nothing to compete with the algae in your tank. All the nutrients in your tank are fueling the algae bloom. By putting some macro algae in there you can help absorb the nutrients as well as phosphates. When it grows you just cut back and throw out. Leaving the lights on too long wont cause an outbreak as long as everything is good with your water quality. Do you have a good amount of snails, and hermits in there? They will help with the left over foods to keep nutrients down and graze on some of the algae.
I bought six snails and two hermits today and I would say that they are doing quite nicely so far on the algae. They have only been in there for 8 hours and they have done their fair share of work. It looks like within a few days all the algae may be gone. I also picked up some chemi pure elite so it sounds like this will help out as well. Thanks again for all the help!
I have a hermit crab you can borrow for a week or two. He'll clean up all the stuff in your tank.He likes to eat everything in sight.Has had some coral maybe a fish or two,but you won't have to worry abt the algae it will be gone b4 you know it.
