Green Hair will not go away!

In 5 minutes I am having a bunch of it on linguini and clams.
Fresh, live clams, none of that frozen stuff for me.
And I don't have any paracites on me.
I doubt it does much for fish but I have not tested it so if you like garlic, use it, especially on linguini and clams. (my favorite meal)

Yep Capn, except for the mysis, thats about my diet.

I even eat nori. Great stuff, I can see why tangs like it. Maybe I will put some Selcon on it the next time I make Sushi.
Fish oil capsules are also on my meal plan. It's good for the fish and it's good for us. I do stop at flakes though.

The C rations I ate in Nam were put in the can before I was born :eek1:

LOL Nasty! I'd rather eat bugs!

This is a good thread, thanks for all the great info guys. I also have a big problem with hair algae, green and red cyano also. I blame it all in my lack of maintenance and in the fact that I use tap water. I'm gonna try some of these tips and hopefully it'll solve my problems.

LOL Actually my original post was really long, about a page long and getting even more off track but then I decided to delete it all and start a new thread.

Cyano is another animal (actually it is part animal and part plant.
It's a bacteria) That can grow in a clean or dirty tank. If it starts taking over everything, then you really have a bad pollution problem and may need grenades. You would have a bunch of organics in there. If you use tap water it is pot luck because even though tap water is fine for people providing us with needed minerals like zinc, iron and copper, our tanks need much lower levels of these trace elements. Algae loves iron.
You need to stop changing water, harvest the algae, cyano, and Loch Ness Monsters, then get some RO water, or some other water besides Tap. If nothing else at least run it through a PVC pipe full of carbon, resins would be better.
Good Luck

Thanks for the info Paul.

I can't afford a ro/di unit atm. Haven't had a job in about 5 months now. When I set up my tank in October, I used a Tap Water Filter. I bought it about 6 years ago. I know a lot of people say it's garbage but It's actually pretty darn good for $30.00. Way better then using tap water. The only draw back about it is that the replacement filters are too expensive at $20 each. I've spent around $200 in replacement filter since then. In the long run, I was better off buying a quality RO/DI unit. :lmao: Back then I used it on my FW planted tank and it did wonders! My plants were growing really quick, they where pearling, actually flowering, and best of all, NO ALGAE! After awhile the replacement filters became to expensive at about a filter a month and I stopped using it. Started using tap water with dechlor. Soon after, everything went through hell. Plants started dieing, no more flowers or pearling, and an explosion of algae that I'm still battling to this very day. Anyways, I broke it out again in October and used it for about 3 or 4 months. I bought a 3pk and another TWF used off ebay. Then I gave up on it again and started using tap water with Prime. It's basically "a PVC pipe full of carbon, resins".

I think I found a better use for it now. I bought some GFO from bulkreefsupply but didn't have enough for the reactor so I decided to make my own DIY reactor using the TWF.

I'm going to disturb and pull out as much as I can. How much was the diatom filter?
