green mandarin goby?

I really want to get one in my tank. I have a 54 gallon with about 50-60 pounds of live rock. I know I can't get a mandarin goby yet because my tank is only 3 months old, but can I eventually? :)

I don't have a sump or refigum, so is there a way I can sustain a copepod population without this?

You need a fuge, there's no way you can sustain one without it. If you want the goby. You need to find one that is eating food besides Copepods. Or get a bigger Fuge. :D Good luck with that. :D

On a tight budget, so a fuge probably won't happen. Is there any goby that is easier to care for, but still beautiful as a mandarin?

Go get Scott Michaels 100 Best Reef Fishes book and read it. Then come back and ask specific questions.

A mandarin is not a goby. No goby is going to be quite that spectacular.

Yes it is actually a dragonette. I have a 90 gallon with 55 sump. About 20 gal of sump is my refuge. Pods everywhere. I also breed pods and occasionally purchase pods from reefs2go.com. My mandarin is fat and healthy. Eats frozen mysis and bloodworms on top on pods that he hunts each day. I have had him in tank for 1 year.

It is possible to have them do good but it took almost 2 months for him to start eating frozen.

Found a small fuge that's in my price range. Dimensions are 13"x 4"x 12". Would this be enoug to support enougs pods to feed a green mandarin?

Oh, and thanks for all the info :)

+1 on the fuge.

ORA breeds dragonettes, but not green ones. However their blues, reds, and spotteds are very pretty and they are all raised eating prepared foods.

I have a green mandrin "goby" and got it when the tank was very young as an impulse buy. I highly suggest against it, however if you go against that advice make sure to get a large container you can hang on the tank that has tank water flowing through it, and then you train them to eat before you let them into the tank. No matter how long it takes, make sure they will recoginize and eat prepared food BEFORE you release them into the display tank. There is the possibility that he will starve to death before he learns to eat, so this could be a heartwrenching process, which is why I dont recommend it.

They can be trained to eat a variety of things, mysis shrimp seem to be high on the list, I know mine LOVES nutramar prawn roe.

Mine is over a year old now, and is both fat and happy. He had to live in a 5 gallon tank with basically nothing in it for about 2 months of his life and survived quite well of nutramar prawn roe that whole time.

I know that a mandarins aren't gobies. I meant that since I may not be able to get a mandarin I didn't think any other type of dragonette would be suitable for my tank. That is why I asked about gobies. I ordered my fuge and it should be arriving in the mail any day now. Thanks again for all the info.

Yes nutramar prawn roe (Ova) saved my mandarin when I didnt have a fuge. Just stock that fuge with tibse and supplement with the ova and your mandarin will be a happy one
