I am going to get a mantis from a person in another province who claims it is a Havanensis which is defiantely something I want. Only issue is he says it is bright green with red legs and I have not seen a picture of one that is green.

Unfortunately there is no pic available. Do they come in this color?

I don`t think that this animal is a O. havanensis, but without a pic it is very difficult to id. It can be everything.
On Roy`s List you find some good details for O. havanensis. Take a look at it and ask the person for these details.

I have never seen a green O. havanensis although sometimes the dorsal surface with have a greenish hue. The key identifying characters are the dark red spots on the inside medial surface of the antennal scale. No other stomatopod that I know has this marking.

venwu22,

Sometimes we don't always have the option of using graphic material. For many species including Odontodactylus havanensis there are diagnostic morphological traits that allow for a positive ID. When this is the case, I'm certainly willing to try to point the person asking for help in the right direction.
