i have a 55 gallon and it is completely covered in a thick green slime.....it is covering my rocks and sand and my walls...i have tap water and i am getting an ro unit in a couple of days will this get rid of the algeae or are there other thingsa i should do...

Does the RO unit you are getting have a DI stage? If not, I would add one. You are looking for 0 TDS ideally. Your algae could be hair algae or cyano from your description. I would siphon out as much as possible during water changes. Heavier skimming and more flow will also help.

The best thing you can do is eliminate the nutrients. Looks for sources of nitrates and phosphates in your filtration system. The tap water is an obvious one. Cut back on feeding as well. ;)
