I dont know wht to do anymore this stuff is overtaking my tank. is there a way to remove/kill/ trim this stuff?

this is worse than hair algae, but a bit nicer to look at

sorry for the dirty glass in the pic

step 1: remove everything from the tank

step 2: start over

Sorry, there's just not gonna be much more you can do unless there is some natural predator that I am unaware of.

how do you frag this stuff? Is there any way to pull it off the rock? I tries scrubbing a spot with a toothbrush and it came back thicker. I wish i could do that with my hair. :)

start curing or aquire live rock replacement rocks. Remove the current pieces of rock that you have that are covered in star polyps... and then sell it as a whole, or smash it into smaller frags and sell them individually. Get some corals that you want for free!!!!

I've been able to peel mine off the live rock. I didn't try "scrubbing" like you, but take the edge and carefully lift it. Mine came off pretty easy.

Then glued it onto a piece of liverock I that was ok to get rid of.

send me some...I lost everything from my tank a few weeks ago in an ice storm.
I love green star polyps and lost a huge colony that I had grown from a small frag..

lol, it took you that long to realize your GSP would be a problem? I've used fine tweezers and start loosening the edges, and slowly pry the mat off the rock. The edges are a bit tougher due to their thickness (or lack thereof), but as you begin to move to the established portion, the mat should be easier to pull off..then its just a matter of glueing them to LR rubble and either selling or trading. Good luck tho, not many LFS in my area are willing to take them...they have more than they can sell.

I would also be willing to send you some replacement rock...

those 2 pices on the right side in the front are just sitting in the sand. Growing like crazy. If u want to pay for S&H its yours.

I knew it was growing like crazy and i kept putting off that i needed to do something about it. But it really exploded the past 2 months since i replaced my lights.

Thats wild! Too bad you cant start a second tank and keep that one with all its splender ;-) I wonder what it would look like in another year?

I actually asked a similar question on reining in my neon GSP. I got some advice that I did. He told me to use a scraper to get as much off as I like, and then use a wire brush.

So I took my barbecue wire brush, placed the large rock in a water bucket and scrubbed for about 10 minutes. I still see the remnants in areas that I tried to get rid of, but I am unsure if it will come back in that area. Until it spreads from the "wanted area".

However, based on this thread, I am contemplating getting rid of the whole thing. Presently it is on the top quarter of a large live rock, so I guess that's it, I got to get rid of it.

i had the same outbreak, but i let it get out of control ;) finally it started killing my other corals so i took all the rock it was growin on and used the powerwasher to peel it off :D

its been 5 months and no sign of GSP :)
