Green Star Polyp Problem

I have some very neat kind of GSP that has something weird growing on it and I'm not to sure about what it is, here is the pic:

If you know what it is can you please let me know what it is and what I should do to get rid of it?

Thanks in advance!

Anyone know what it is? It keeps coming back, it doesn't seem to bother the gsp but when it covers the polyps they don't come out. When I take it off they come out with in an hour or so.

Beats me, maybe expose it to air for a while? Not sure how susceptible they are to air exposure, and the last one I exposed to air (not a liver sponge), it didn't do anything LOL. I never had a liver sponge that wasn't off on its own not bothering anything. Sorry.

looks like a sponge to me.

pull it off. Does it come off all in one piece?

Chuck it out. When in Doubt Throw it Out

That is for sure cyanobacteria and not a sponge.
Just your description, "i take it off and it keeps coming back", says it all.
No sponge is gonna outcompete gsp for space in an aquarium.
I hate to say it too, but your "strange morph" looks like regular old gsp that is starving for light and flow.

To get rid of the cyano, water changes and limit nutrients(cheato, less feeding, etc), limit photoperiod for a day or 3.

To get those gsp to show their true color and size, get some good lighting(this will also help with the cyano), gsp shouldnt be all shrunk up like that...

You probably have high nitrate and phosphate levels, dontcha.... Do you test?

I forgot to point out that increasing the flow on those gsp will not only help them get into tiptop shape, but will also help get rid of cyano(which loves low flow).

GSP love high flow, cyano cant live in the kind of flow that gsp need.

It was a sponge, I had cyano before and it's nothing like cyano. I used a tooth brush and scrubbed it and it hasn't come back.
