green star polyps on back of tank

You should be able to find pics using the search function here. This question gets asked a lot!
I originally wanted mine on the overflow, but I have rocks close enough for it to attach to since mine branches out when it runs out of room. In my observation & what I was told is it mostly grows upward, so start it low.

mine has only grown up the overflow...never down, and though it doesnt branch out like some species seem to do it does grow over itself...start it as low as you want it to grow, and keep rocks away from it...it will generally grow out and up, very seldom will it grow down (shades itself) and it likes lots of light and flow to really make it sparkle...

I just had a smaller rock that had gsp on it. I pried up a corner of the gsp and wedged the rock against the wall so that little flap of gsp was flat on the wall. (I know it's an older thread, but thought I'd throw in my 2c).

i had a small colony on some rock off the back wall in my old JBJ 28 and I just grew like a weed up and out towards the overflow.

I really loved the look

No special tricks other than the fact that it liked the flow pattern and light there and took off.

I really liked that little tank but sadly the whole tank toppled during one of our lame California quakes several years ago.

Mine just grow by themselves on the back wall. I think I just started off by placing the first little frag I had next to the back wall and it went from there.

I placed a rock close to the back and it literally stretched to overflow. Most of it is covered now. It also took over the right side of my tank. The whole side was covered but now right side is almost clear again because I have fragged and sold pieces right of the glass. Easy to cut into different sized pieces with a razor blade.

Here is a pic. Prior to it covering the whole overflow I had glued some purple monticap, well the gsp took over, now I can easily break a piece of the cap and sell the gsp as well from the overflow. Looks way better in person, These are the metallic green long hair GSP. I have some growing on the bottom as well in a different tank. Looks like carpet or grass on one side of my tank.

Anyone ever done the bottom in a bare bottom frag tank? I would help with waste, and because there's no rock in a frag tank, shouldn't take over everything quite a easily. Scrape it off 4 PVC stands or just replace them!

My gsp is the vibrant neon greed type that is a little longer and has no white in it. For me it is very slow growing. It was easier to grow it on the plastic of the overflow than on the back glass. It never worked when I glued it to the glass because the flow is strong so it eventually came off the glass. What finally worked was when I rested the rocks with GSP on the back glass and it grew naturally on the glass. It has been about 3 years and my glass still isn't covered! Nothing in that tank grows quickly tho.
