Hello all! My name is Priscilla and I am very new to aquarium owning, we can round up and say a week. I had a bit of a panic yesterday and managed to find the forum, post in invertebrates (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=13710813#post13710813), and beg for help all in a matter of hours. :D

Now that I feel the crisis has been adverted (one can hope) I wanted to introduce myself. I am a 26 year old who was recently engaged and my fiance and I who live in Green Mountain bought our first tank a week ago. I dabbled in fresh water tanks in college and had been thinking about picking up the hobby for a while and after searching Craig's List for a bit we found a 72 gallon bow front that called to me and I ended up getting an early Christmas present. Of course the thing was practically already full of salt water fish so instead of starting with fresh and having to convert to salt (which I knew I wanted to do eventually) we have plunged right into our first salt water tank. Of course I have no idea what I am doing other than reading a LOT to hopefully make up for some of my sub-par skills. As of right now I have water cycling in the tank and have been adding a scoop of salt every hour which I planned on doing until the salinity evened out appropriately. Oh yeah last night I also setup a quarantine tank (which I have gathered the acronym for is QT?) with some hermit crabs, but that's a(whole)nother store and feel free to check it out and throw any recommendations about that in here as well.

Anyhow I hope I get to know some of you well and you all don't mind me asking lots and lots of silly questions over the months.

Welcome aboard!
There are no silly questions for a newbie:)
Sometimes there are no cut and dry answers but everyone has their opinions. It'll be your task to wade through all the opinions to determine which route you want to go in. The great thing about this hobby is that there are many paths to the same conclusion.
Good luck

btw.....Since you are essentially starting a new tank, I don't think you'll want any livestock in there for at least a month. You have to wait for the Nitrogen cycle to complete, i.e. Ammonia-->Nitrite-->Nitrate. There are several websites that explain this process in depth.
Personally I wouldn't even put live rock into an uncycled tank until it was safe. I would get some base rock and some sand and then kick start the nitrogen cycle (with a piece of raw shrimp).
Also since you are in Denver, I don't think the tap water is good enough to use for saltwater. You need some reverse osmosis (RO) water or some RODI (Deionized) to mix your salt.
But as I said, everyone has opinions and those are mine. Others may have used tapwater with no ill effects.

[welcome]

Read the permanent threads at the top of the "New to the Hobby" forum and you'll save yourself a lot of money and even more heartache from endangering your livestock. You're off to a great start. Enjoy!

Glad to have you among the addicted. It's a wonderful hobby!

You will find lots of folks willing to help here. Read all you can and ask questions. A 72 bow front is a great tank for fish.

Your first saltwater tank is always so exciting!!!

There is a ton of great info on Reefcentral.....Welcome to the saltwater world....

Don't overlook the local reef stores like Aquamart and Key's (the two closest to you.) They have some knowledgable and very nice people working there who are more than willing to help a newb. Sometimes it's easier to understand when you can actually see all the pieces working together. Don't get discouraged if your tank doesn't look like theirs just yet. It takes time and patience, and you will hear over and over that, "Only bad things happen fast in a reef tank."

The two best starts on RC are most of the articles by Randy Holmes-Farley in the Chemistry Forum and the full archive in the Tank of the Month on ReefKeeping Magazine which have a link on RC.
When I first started, reviewing the TOTMs helped identify some 'best practices' that helped me get started. The articles from RHF helped trouble shoot and avoid lots of human error!

Good Luck!

Ask all the questions you need. It's better to ask and get different opinions and advice, then to guess and have it go bad.

Here is a link to my build thread hopefully it will offer some assistance in setting up your new tank.

I second what EllieSuz says and read those articles.... Funny is EllieSuz is in Rochester NY and my sister lives 40 min from there and failed to read and made so many rookie mistakes.... When in doubt, ask away, everyone here really wants to help you enjoy the 'addiction' as Rob put it. --Dave
