Attn: Fellow Reef-Geeks,

I recently negotiated a Group Buy with John Dakan at Your Reef for T. Crocea, T Maxima, T. Derasa, T. Squamosa, and T. Gigas Clams (based upon species availability at the time of the order).

The negotiated rate is a group discount of 25% off of an order of 10 or more 2-3 inch clams.

Please let me know if this is something that you would be interested in.

Thanks.

shiveley :)

With clams its hard to set a price as the market fluctuates on them. I never know what I will be paying. However I am willing to offer a large discount of 25% on an order of 10 or more. My price averages out to be $25-$35 for 2-3 inch clams. I hope that helps.

i'm in but do we get to go and pick them out or do we just say the species we want and hope for the best

That's what I'm wondering too...

hmm... sounds fishy... But if they are $25-$35 for 2-3"s.... Isn't that average price for them? So where is the discount?

I just wrote him and asked for more details of the order process. Specifically, I wanted to know how we would handle orders for multiple species, and whether or not this would be in terms of his regular stock, or if it would be a special order.

But I would not count on being able to select the exact clam you want out of the buy. I mean, we can't have 10 or 12 people fighting over the same clam now, can we. You pick the type of clam you want, and that's what you get.

But if you know anything about Your Reef, you know that they have nice, high quality stuff. If I didn't trust their inventory I would have went with someone else. But Your Reef is reputable, reasonable, and (IMO) a first rate vendor.

Those prices are pre-discount...

Sounds fishy? Why is that? How is anybody going to take advantage of you in a Group Buy with a local and well known vendor?

Hey, I'm just trying to help others get a good deal while getting one myself. If it sounds "fishy" to you than just disregard the offer.

Hi,

I can usually get any of those without too much trouble. I can get sizes from 2-6 inch on most clams with 2-3 inch being the easiest to find. If anyone is after any large clams go ahead and take there request and I will see what I can do.

Thanks,

John Dakan

Nothing fishy here. John's a good guy and a MARS supporter, so his reputation here is well earned as an honest LFS owner.

Would like to get around a 4-5" on the Derasa, if i could get a price that would be grreat, yea and if could get me those TPS reports, thannks!

John/ jlf, I like the Squamosa's alot that is the one clam i own right now. They get quite large though.but are real hardy! Just dont get a Gigas unless you own an Ocean:) think they can at least get up to 3 feet.

Karl is the clam guru, isn't he?

Cheers,

Davey

Karl,

Do the Derasa's only get blue when larger?

I definetly like the ones that are more blue, but online all the small ones i see are not blue at all

wow if i knew sooner, i'd probably be interested ..but i recently picked up two croceas about a week and a half ago..=/

Only two?

Them critters eat nitrates! Give 'em light and fair nutrients and they will help balance your tank. $25 (less group buy discount) is cheaper and mo' pretty than 'nitrasorb' or 'nitrate sponge' if'n you have the lights...

Clams. Pretty. Have you ever looked at them from above? Totally different. Seriously. Clams are the way of the future.

Clams.
