Hey Steve,

Do you have any clue how much a gallon size ziploc bag will hold? I want to use that as a measurement of hoe much I will purchase. :D

BTW - thanks for doing the group purchase.

Nothing closer than Maryland? I just figured a local Cali distributor would give better rates on shipping.

What about this?

Purity Products Co
4 Maxwell Ct
Santa Rosa, CA 95401

(707) 546-2585

I know the price is higher but i bet shipping would be alot less and santa rosa isnt that far.

That is for Dowflake, They dont carry magflake

A place called purity products has a couple pallets full $26 for 50 lbs

This may be the place where John (California Reefer) got the last GB from. it was considerably less. I think the only thing is that you do need a business license to purchase from them.

http://www.sierrachemicalcompany.com/

They are in West Sac and i know a LFS used to get their calcium and other chemicals (including carbon) from them. You may want to call them for pricing.

John,
Hey, I have the truck and license if needed. You find a place and hook up the deal, and I can help you with the logistics.

Where was all this info on the last thread where I was asking for help??
heheh, guess I can't get good help till I get a price that's too high.
:)

I'll start checking out these other places.
Sounds like Mr. Mike wants to help out on this one too, so that will be nice.
;)

Consider the GB on hold till further information.
No one has bought any yet either so we are good.

I just called Sierra Chemical Company to inquire about the MgCl2 and CaCl2. I don't know what brand it is. This is what I know so far:

MgCl2: 97% purity. 80lb bag is $66.40
MgCl2: 77-80% purity 50lb bag $35.50

Those numbers seem to correspond to DowFlake and MagFlake purity. I have asked for a fax of the MSDS so that I can hopeful find out what the impurities are. My guess is that it's not going to be a big deal.

They do sell to the public, so you do not need a business license.

Steve, just figured if you are picking up a couple bags of the stuff, you might need some help.

Minh, is the bottom supposed to be CaCl2 or are those prices for different size bags of MgCl2 like you have listed?

Also, do you know if they carry ferrous oxide too?

Opps... the bottom is CaCl2. I got the MSDS, and the CaCl2 is DowFlake.

The MgCl2 is listed as 97% Magnesium Chloride and 3% non-hazardous material. The actual ingredient is magnesium chloride hexahydrate.

Mike - are you sure it's not ferric oxide that you want? According to this thread, you want Fe2O3. This would be ferric oxide. For those who are interested, Ferric Oxide is basically what Phosban is made out of.

Edit: Just called them and they don't carry Ferric Oxide or Ferric Hydroxide.

You are correct, ferric oxide (aka rust :D). Just trying to find cheaper ways to supply the system. Who would have thought buying a bucket of rust would be so expensive.

Mike - I did some research into ferric oxide, and most vendors sell the powder version of it. I haven't been able to find a vendor that sells granule version of ferric oxide. :(
