Group Buy on Dow Flake and Mag Flake

Minh, thats what I have been running into as well... was hoping somebody would have the inside scoop on the stuff that does not involve flaking it off an old car sitting in their backyard. ;)

Yes, thats the stuff. I am trying to locate a bulk distributor of it. However, that price is a great deal. Avgs out to about 3.5 cents/gram, vs the 6.6 cents/gram for the actual Phosban from MarineDepot.

I think that I can even find it better if I can locate a chemical supply company that sells it in granules vs the powder I commonly see it in. I will remain vigilent - my pocketbook depends on it. :D

Update Mag Chloride flakes from local Sac company
$0.83 per lb sells in 80lb bag. Down in West Sac

Should I just buy this bag assuming people will want it?
I have only about 4 people interested so far, and none have said they want 80 lbs worth.

Do others want this and are just being quiet?

I will be looking for a large bag ea. of the MgCl2, CaCl2, NaHCO3, MgSO4 for myself (they carry it all according to the website). That should just about be a one stop shop for all the additives on that three part solution by Mr. Farley.

Have lots of water to treat. ;)

Might also be worthwhile checking into their costs on activated carbon. Not to complicate it anymore than I already may have, they also carry Ca(OH)2 (or kalkwasser) for you die hards. ;)

There is no choice for shipping up above. I would like 10lbs. of the magflake shipped to me if it's possible. Thanks.

We have not completed the vendor list yet.
I have asked that the top thread be removed until we get it all straight.

I'm just being quiet! :bounce1::bounce2::bounce3:
I need dow flake (CaCl2), mag flake, and I am definitely interested in a source for FE2O3. If the MgSO4 is less expensive than what I'm buying now, I'd go for that too. I just want to be sure it is high enough grade. I can't remember the grading system now - I think reagent grade might be the highest, I think U.S.P is right up there near the top but as long as what we are getting is food grade or above (I know, who would eat this this stuff?) then I'm in. I think some of the swimming pool and road de-icer stuff is allowed to have more impurities, so I'll pass on that.

I been checking into Fe2O3, and I haven't been able to find anyone that sells granual ferric oxide. I found a lot of place that wells the powder version. :(

BTW - if anyone wants something beside CaCl2 and MgCl2, maybe you can coordinate a group buy. I think it's alot of work just to coordinate a group buy on two items - especially when you have a baby due any day now. Thanks Steve for taking this on.

With my latest Frag, I won't be able to tackle this like I wanted.
Someone please take over this project.

I like to do things right the first time, and I'm not sure I will be able to do that right now.

I need to get everything calmed back down in my life before I start odd ball projects again.

If my tanks get their daily and weekly chores done, I will be happy with that for a while.
:)

Steve,

I can take it over. I figured you were busy, so I was going to offer to take it over, but didn't want to appear pushy. Let me do some calculation and get back to everyone how much it will cost to do this group buy. I'll start a new thread.

Hey if you want to offer help at ANY time just let me know.
I don't take offense at all to asking.

If I don't need help I'll say, thanks, but no thanks.
and if I need help I'll say, YES, Thank You!!

Steve,

Do you have the terms and condition of your last group buy? I want to use a very similiar term and condition.
