I'm located in South San Jose and I'm looking to get a $50 fish. Need $100 more for free shipping. Would anybody like to buy with me? Does anyone know of a better place to buy a Blue Star Wrasse?

I'm looking to buy some clams. I'll be ordering soon

Macropharyngodon bipartitus? Neptune had some females last time I was there.

I got Ich from Neptune and I have just gone fishless for 8 weeks. I believe that LA is cheaper and has QT procedures?

I am nervous about getting my first wrasse. I do like the 100% policy LA offers.

Scuzy lets stay in contact and see if anyone else needs a buy as well. I am also interested in a clam. I would really like to talk with an experienced reefer such as yourself.

You'll need to quarantine regardless where you are getting it.

I don't have the resources to setup and maintain a QT. I'm going to take the risk because he will be my only fish. Unless he does have itch, then it is another 8 weeks. I did setup a hospital tank for my previous loss, but could not keep the fish alive even with dosing ridich regularly.

While DD has some QT procedures, LA does not. Regardless, I agree with scuzy, you should QT including TTM.

What is TTM? Do you have any recommendations to those without means to QT? I don't believe QT'ing is common practice despite being best practice.

TTM is tank transfer method. There are some good stickies on the forum. Just search for TTM.
If it is the only fish in your tank, then I agree...that it is much less of an issue.

Without doing proper quarantine the cycle continues. I stick to a strick quarantine protocol. Anything wet gets isolated in quarantine tank or inverts tank for 72 days before coming into display. Since doing this I had not had one lost except internal fighting. It's a pain but it's something that needs to be done cause I got thousands with invested on my fishes. I can't afford any parasite wiping them out.

if you pay LA prices but guarantee policy is you buy it you own it, then you might as well buy from LA, more so if you can get the free shipping.

Just called up LA to pick their brain. Can confirm that they have a 2-week hold on fish they receive before selling, but do not QT unless they observe a sickness. DD is different as WLachnit noted.

With the 14-day guarantee and the fact that it is my first fish I am thinking of rolling the dice.

Presently I only have LPS, softies, and some snails.

Additionally, does anyone know of a local QT service? (just throwing it out there)

Have you checked with Matt in SJ to see if he has one? He usually posts on CL. He always does TTM and have had good experiences with his fish. Prices are good as well.

Pretty sure Live Aquaria just sends straight from their SoCal (LA?) warehouse, so you're getting everything that just comes in from overseas. No more QT than most LFS. You might be thinking of Diver's Den stuff, which possible is QT'd but that comes from elsewhere.

I have had the best success with fish from LA with only one loss within the first few days in comparison to the majority of fish from lfs dying quickly after purchase. QT'd saved display for sure. I'm not sure the reason but perhaps there is one less shipment and LA has the fish delivered by 10:30am which makes a big difference with getting corals as well.

perhaps LA shipping out as soon as it comes in from overseas is an advantage over one that has transferred hands a few times through middleman to the lfs.

you won't get 14 day money back guarantee from lfs.

Highly recommend Matt in South SJ for his diligent care of all the in coming fish, he does Prazipro followed by TTM then QT before release all the fish to his customers, on top of that he provide 48 hr guarantee.
His handle here is maddhugan, just pm him for the fish you need and he will get them for you.
