the glass is tempered!!!!!!.....geez, why couldnt the label say that all panels were tempered......all it said was "bottom panel is tempered for strength and durability".....so i decided to drill the back.....after 5 minutes of going in circles with the dremel.....i hear a "pop", and the back of the tank was in a bazillion pieces.........GRRRRRR!!!!....and this was gonna be such a sweet bedroom tank!.........luckily, the tank was free so i didnt lose any money out of it

if anyone needs a broken 55gal tank....holla at me

Yep you can get a piece pretty cheap and even probably have them drill it for you. Sorry about the break I broke my Oceanic cube drilling the back. I ordered a piece if glass and siliconed it in and its still running to this day. Trust me if I can do it, anybody can.

how much would a piece of glass cost?.......and would i have to re'silicone every side....or would i just need to the the side that broken?

I'd expect the glass to be < $40 and no you don't have to resilicone every side. Just clean it off real good with a razor blade... clean it with acetone(?)... reseal.

I replaced the bottom on a 15g tall tank and the glass ran me 10 bucks.

I only made sure the bottom joints were clean and resealed it. Not a leak ever from it. Ended up drilling it a few days later and tank has been good as new.

FYI clean it and get it all preped then take it to the shop. They can be finda picky and this was you get a spot on measurment.

i thought i read somewhere that said that you would need to reseal all the silicone because silicone will not glue to silicone

Can't remember the thickness but I replaced the bottom of my 40 breeder kritter cage (36x18) and it was $11

I went through Waynes Glass Co. in M'boro. It was actually like $10 and some change and they smoothed the edges so it wasnt sharp.

I know Jacks does not. I would imagine 1/4" would be what you want... I don't think they use 3/8" on 55s, but I guess they could.
