GSP not opening

Hey there fellow reefers!
I got a small colony of green start polyps while my metal halide light and ballast was being replaced, it took about 2 or 3 weeks to get everything working again. In the mean time, I had some back up PC's over the tank and everything seemed to do fine. The start polyps were open and looked as happy as they did in the their former tank. Since the metal halide has been on them, the first day they all opened up except the polyps the highest up (the top 1/4 inch). Then after that, they have not been opening up at all. I think it may be the light so I got them farther from the light yesterday but today, they still are not opening up. Is something wrong with them or do I just need to give them time to adjust? IME star polyps can be moody. I have had colonies that got mad about something and stayed closed for several days. I think moving them lower is a good idea, now just leave them untouched for a while and see what happens. I would not get concerned until they have been closed up for four or more days.

i just got a colony of GSP recently also, the first day they didnt open up at all. They only recently opened up this afternoon. So be paitent and hopefully they'll open up.

Unless they go longer than a week without opening, they're fine. They are sensitive to change but almost always come around.

Yeah, yesterday they opened up so it was only 2 days closed so they are ok. It must have been the intense lighting.

Here's one for you. I went on vacation for a week and had my mom feeding my fish. I told her to thaw out my frozen food and tank water, and i guess she wasnt listening and thawed it out in tap water So i came back and my whole colony wasnt open. I was thinking maybe they're just mad at me. anyways a few days go by and nothing, then a couple weeks and im beginning to worry. I was talking to my mom and it was about a month later after i got back i figured out she used tap water. I put amquel plus in there to detoxify anything and they started to open back up like the next day. They pretty muched lived for about 2 months without opening up fully. The tips were almost white but had a little green to them. Its been a couple months and they look just fine now and gained their metalic green back. My words of advice are: if the mat isnt decaying/breaking away just leave them alone. I think a trace amount of chlorine made them mad. They also dont like algae or anything trying to grow on their mat. Clean it off by shaking or soft toothbrush it off. Lots of light with medium flow is what mine like.
