I have no clue, but for my current setups(listed in my current tanks section) I have spent more than 15K in 2 years and if you include power, etc., I'm looking upwards of 20K. I have serious addiction problems and need to stop trying to get ALL the cool things. Bear in mind, this is for six tanks and a whole bunch of other things I have still yet to get around to, including a 180G, and a bunch of tanks ranging from 20-40G each.

I will tell you, I have calmed down significantly now that I am almost out of room. I would say on average, maybe 300-500 each month including utilities increase, or 100-300 on corals, fish, foods, buffers, equipment, etc.

Once I get my clownfish breeding set up and get my pair to breed, I'm hoping they will support my whole expenses per month and possibly make me a few bucks here and there, but that is still at least a year off as my clowns are still babies.

I have a 75g cichlid tank rihgt now thats it, other than a 5 gallon hospital tank for the unfortunate...lol. I have been extremely close to buying another tank but after seeing the price tag on ya'lls I'm glad I have stayed away...lol

Just convert your Cichlid tank, wait till u see some one selling their equipment and spend a little less mulla that way. Im sure you just need the Lighting, skimmer and sump, right?? everything else can come slowly...o-yeah, I guess u do need the salt. Where in Tampa are u??

Word to the wise.. DONT keep receipts. Throw away calculators, and never start adding things up!!

Keep an eye out for used equip sales, and get the good stuff the first time around. You will be money ahead in the long run. Of course you can save here and there on things. If I had it to do over I think I would try the MJ mods as opposed to the Tunze's on a controller. Save major bux there. Dosing 2-part instead of Ca reactor maybe.. But kindof a hassle. Be patient and get frags from locals or trade.. Any way you slice it its still not a cheap hobby.

Yeah, had I done research beforehand and learned the things I needed to, I would have been much better off. I probably wasted 5K starting off wrong, making adjustments as I went along, and fish/corals that did not make it due to ignorance. Start off right and save a lot in the long run. Besides, my number is misleading because I have champagne tastes when it comes to my corals. I went on a binge of having to have specific corals and having to spend all this money on things that would have been better spent on any one of a hundred things.

If you have a good plan and good background, you will be able to do it for fairly cheap(relatively). I just converted my 55G fresh to salt and the setup(after cleaning) cost me the amount that the salt I put in did. Everything else was prepurchased through good acquisitions previously and frags or colonies from my other tanks. Oh yeah, and the purchase of the one fish. It can be done for really cheap if you find the right deals. Don't give up on your desire to come to the salt side, it has been worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY I SPENT!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to believe that I've made all the mistakes already, and my 390 I'm working on now is a genius of engineering and style. I would like to think that all the cash I flushed during the learning curve is a thing of the past, but I'm sure a year from now, I'll have a whole new list of mistakes and $$$ spent to prove it. hahaha!!! Thank God it's all fun.
Mike

Theres always something to upgrade, thats the fun part...if not, u wouldnt have anything to do. Also well put mflamb...
