Guess the Phosphate level

Gyres

Gyres

so what are your thoughts on the Gyres, i have one and two MP40s. I prefer the water movement by the Gyres, but the build quality, i am unsure about.

thoughts?

I haven't had a problem with the gyres. They have been rock solid both at home and at work. Both pumps are great, they do different things. I still have one Vortech and a jab Jebao on the system because they all move water in different ways.

A few months ago I added a Bill Wann skimmer. Love that thing. I am feeding it with a vectra and am surprised at how much control of the flow rate changes the consistency of the skimmate. I are running it at about 48% and getting much more frothly light foam instead of running it wet like I have traditionally. After this years MACNA I also added a bigger Bill Wann CaRx fed by a litermeter really dig both. The Breeding system is now connected to the main system and total volume is something like 500 gallons.

I'll have to take an FTS soon.

Here is a pic of under the house with the new Skimmer and CaRx

Here are the graphs from AWT. Nothing all that unexpected, but for the nitrate drop which seems to coincide with the auto water changes. I have also removed the RDSB recently to see if I will end up with a Phosphate drop.

Hey Rich, good to hear from the skeptical reef!
Any chance you have that video anywhere else besides Facebook?
Yes, I am that guy who is STILL not on Facebook .... the only guy..
Anyways, it won't allow hd viewing without being a member.
From what I could see, the reef is looking good!

Brief hijack time!

Rich, have you ever tried pairing copperband butterflyfish? I've had a favorite CBB for a couple of years that might appreciate a mate.

Oops! Missed this. I haven't, at least not in a tank less than 20,000 gallons. I am useless to you!

Nope. There`s two of us.

Not sure why everyone was surprised, looks like a high nutrient tank to me! What I do find odd though is that NO3 is so low (comparatively) when PO4 is so high, which I've found in a few tanks over the years, but not many. Usually these are tanks that are grossly overfed which poor filtration with seems to be the only thing in common I've found. Why is NO3 so low in your tank Rich? All that live rock???

An off-topic question...I have an aquarium service company and at home I have a small reef. People always think I must have a large reef, but that's the last thing I would want. How do you work on that giant aquarium all day and want to come home and look after another big reef at home too?

I switched to constant water changes of about 6 gallons a day about a year ago. We will see if it makes any difference.

Its mostly automated, and if I didn't have it set up before I got the job, I am not sure I would have set it up. Though I will say that there is a real difference in continued learning having a reef that I control 100%.

Yeah, that's absolutely true, though the margin of learning on a 500 vs 50 gallon tank is marginal.

Agreed, gorgeous tank, this thread continues to be an inspiration.

How are you liking your gyre?
