Guidance setting up P3 and Pump Dosing Unit

I am probably duplicating a previous thread requesting similar guidance - I am asking for very basic guidance on setting up the following equipment from scratch: Digital powerbar, P3ex, and 4-pump dosing unit

Please be patient with me and do not feel bad about insulting my intelligence by providing very basic step by step instructions. I found these instructions but I am confused about a couple of steps.

1. In Menu I will click yes on Digital Powerbar
2. Then connect the Digital Powerbar to wall, and connect the control cable from Powerbar to S1S4 in P3.
3. Set numbering starting at 1 (sockets from 1 to 6)

4. Plug off digital powerbar, and connect the control cable from S1S4 to the Dosing Unit, plug the dosing unit to wall
5. Set numbering to dosing unit, starting at 7 (pumps from 7 to 10)
6. Plug again digital Powerbar to wall, and use another control cable to connect the Dosing Unit with the Digital Powerbar

Does this mean that I will have: Powerbar connected to wall outlet - control cable from powerbar to dosing unit - a second control cable from dosing unit to P3?

I only received one control cable when I ordered the P3ex beginners package, do I need a second control cable?

Thank you in advance.

Connect both the power bar and the Dosing unit power cables to a standard power outlet on the wall or whatnot.

If you have a PAB power bar you connect that control cable into the PAB interface on the P3

If you have a Digital power bar that uses the S port interface you connect the control cable from the power bar to S1-4 or S5-8.

You set the numbering on S port based power bars and dosing units using the software, but PAB is slightly different.

If you can let us know what kind of power bar you have, I'll give you some more detailed instructions.

Gareth, thank you, it is a PAB power bar. Also, what is the latest version of software and driver that I need to download?

Ok, you first need to make sure that you have assigned an ID to the PAB power bar.

To achieve this you need to do a couple of quick steps on the head unit itself (cant do this through teh software yet, its coming soon).

Scroll through the menu and select "System"
In the system menu, scroll untill you find "Configure PAB" and select it.
In the PAB menu select "Assign Devices"
Select the listed device and you're off to the races.

As far as your doser is concerned its easy as it will be your only S port based device.

Connect your control cable from S1-4 on the Profilux to the S port on the Doser, then program the Numbering. Personally I prefer to use the first few numbers for the dosers so they are easy to find. You can do all of this through the software, its just the initial PAB assignment you have to do from the Head unit directly.

Hope this helps!

Gareth

The final configuration will be: Powerbar, P3, and dosing unit connected to wall outlet - control cable from powerbar to P3 - a second control cable P3 to dosing unit?

Yes.

The PAB cables are simple Ethernet cables and can only connect the PAB devices to each other.

The S port cables are the ones that look similar to a telephone cable, but are proprietary. Your dosing unit should have come with one of these cables. DO NOT USE a non-GHL cable as this may damage the unit(s)

Gareth, then I need to buy a second S port cable right? and also, what is the latest version of software that I need to download?

I took a quick look in GHL direct and could not find the S cable.

Hi Tony

The doser would come with the correct cable you should not need one, this is why you cant find it on the site as its not an accessory offered.

The doser is not part of the PAB configuration it plugs into S1S4 with the supplied cable

The latest firmware is at www.aquariumcomputer.com then go to downloads

Hope that helps? ;)

Gareth, for the PAB cable coming from the power bar, does it make any difference if it goes in the PAB connections 15 or 16 in the P3?

port L5-L6 are 1-10v ports, the pab ports are not identified and are just sitting next to the temp/level port. either one can be used like Gareth sayed

im having profiluxing trouble connecting my powerbar 6d pab to profilux. do i use pab cable to connect power bar to profilux? then what do i do
