Guide to setup a Quarantine Tank (QT).

Can you at fish and inverts in the same tank?

you can as long as there is not medication used in past that contain copper and not rid of properly, or if there will be no medications used in near future, only if qt is an observation tank.
Most meds will kill inverts specially if copper is involved.
As long as you are just observing it should be fine.

I have noticed less spots on the fish but some have moved to the rim of the mouth and I see some parts where the fish has possibly scratched. I haven't done the transfer yet as I am setting up another 30 gallon for the qt but I should be ready tonight.

Do you think that if I move the shrimp in the tank and use the current system is be killing off the beneficial bacterial because I'm lowering the salinity? I am asking because I am busy and am afraid that I will not have the time to check the ammonia and do water changes constantly. If the current filtration will hold up in lower salinity it seems like it will be a better option if this is possible.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Ty.

I want to clarify what I just wrote.

I have a 30 gallon tank which is cycled and has the purple tang, chromis, and 3 peppermint shrimp. If I remove the shrimp and put them in my main tank, will I kill off all the bio in the 30 gallon by lowering the salinity? I do have another 30 gallon that is ready if prefer this option if it's possible as it will help with the ammonia issue if I don't have time for a water change.

After trying about 100 times, I was finally able to get a pic that somewhat shows the "ich" Please let me know if you think it might be something else. The amount has drastically reduced (visually) on the fish. He's still eating and doing well.

I have my fish in QT and will be doing the first 25% water change after 2 dosed of Prazipro.
The Saltwater I have made up already is what I use for the DT @ 1.025 sg.
I need to raise the SG in the QT which is at 1.022 sometime between now and the next 2 weeks before they go into the DT.
My question is can I use the 1.025 mix for my 25% water change or will it be to much of a raise in salinity ?

If u did 25% water change in a 1.022sg qt tank with 1.025sg freshly made saltwater u will end up with 1.02275 after change. That is not a large change at all.

okay so that won't bring up the SG to fast then, its a 20 gal so I'll be changing out 5 gal.
I guess I would top off with fresh saltwater until the SG gets up to 1.025 like the DT.
Is that the right way to do it ? I still have 2 weeks left in QT.

best way to increase salinity in a tank is to top off with right salinity water. Then check salinity after 24 hrs to make sure it has increased.

Quick question on my QT. I'm in week 3, did my 25% water change last week and gave my final Prazipro dose last Thurs. so do I do another 25% water change this Thursday or just observe for the remainder of Quarantine?

after 3rd treatment term of 7 days i would do a 25% water change and then observe over next few weeks. WC will only help and not hurt in any way if done properly.
Good Luck and Safe Reefing.

simple question - I have a 4 in changing emp angel in QT. All good so far and eating like a champ. Purchased from a trustworthy lfs (not an oxymoron here) and they treat all fish with prazi when they arrive in their shop. If the fish is doing well do you recommend treating with prazi in the qt as a precaution or just observe and treat if any issue.

2nd question - I have standard white t12 lighting for the qt tank but have typically not turned them on at all and just relied on the room lighting. Am I better off using the lights a few hours a day to make the transition into the DT tank easier or just keep on using just the natural room lighting?

Thx!

Hi
Running prazipro again won't hurt anything in fact might only help. I like to do procedure on my own meaning I like treat my fish leaving no room for tomorrow saying I wish I would have done this or that. Just my personal thing.
If you decide to run it. U can do a short 1 week treatment or not do it at all.
Lights are of no need when it comes to fish so it's not a requirement to run them for certain hours. I do recommend though to do turn them on for better observation needs for yourself rather fish needs.
Good luck and safe reefing.

Thanks - I will likely run the prazi. Then what - do a h2o change after a week and run carbon?
I understand that it is not necessary to run the lights in the qt but is it easier for the fish to acclimate to the new environment in the dt when it is transferred and the lights being in the dt (I asked the fish and he did not tell me - the nerve...)

Thanks again. Much appreciated.

LOL, i have been asking fish questions for last 18 yrs they dont every reply back to me :)
back to ur question, yes after running prazi you will need to do atleast 25% water change. running carbon is not required as prazi will degrade to nothing in 7 days. its best intended purpose is as a bath treatment rather than long term aquarium use.
Lights again are personal preference as really fish wont care for light. they wont be shocked in DT after leaving qt due to light.
its best to do have 2-3 hrs of lights on qt for observation and light acceptance.

my fish have just finished their QT session. New fish , prazi treatment and off to the big house (after several weeks....lol). Is there anything I need to do to be ready to put some new fish in the quarantine tank ? I thought I would do a 25% water change and shake of the sponge and bio ceramics in the change water, check the parameters and introduce new fish. What are your thoughts ?

Hi
after finishing off the QT term, i usually shake off the ceramic media and filters etc in the water. making sure that such items remain mostly submerged and mot exposed to air for long time. then siphon the water for debris and do a water change about 25-50%. ghost feed next day and check for ammonia hrs later to make sure bacterial colony is still intact and working. Then you can start with new fish again.
Good Luck and Safe Reefing.
