Hey Richard:
I have been planning to use your package about as long as I have been planning this tank now...seems like a couple of years now
I would like to set the tank up as a Gulf of Mexico biotope and what I had in mind was to include some knobby rod and purple frilly gorgonia, considerable amount of sponge, porites as a SPS, large polyps and some macro algae in the display. Also wanted to feature some inverts such as peppermint shrimp, feather worms, chistmas tree worms and hermit crabs. Fish will be a mated pair of cherubfish, 3 blue chromis and either a redlip or seaweed blenny. Tank is a 90.
I really want to emphasis repitition of a few species as opposed to one of as many different types as I can get, this will really tie the tank to the true biotope feeling representing a true miroecosystem.
I've looked into this pretty heavily since I started ordering parts and peices for the tank. As far as I can find the only item out of place was the cherubfish, but this is non-negotiable since my fiance saw two in the LFS tank...and even at that, they are reported as seasonal to the NE gulf area.
Since you dive/work in the area, I wanted your input on the plan. I know your rock is usually high in cup coral and has occasional closed brain coral, how often do you encounter any of the porites?
Still on track to place my order around mid-end March. My order slightly smaller than for a 90 as I want to top-off the tank with some Lettuce coral rock from Haiti...not personal
, just some variety in texture.
Thanks,
Chris
