Gutting my coralife

I should be aquiring some DEs and T5s soon however they setup for the compactness of a 55. Since mine is a 75, i was thinking about gutting my coralife fixture and using the PC units inconjuction with everything else. I would only need new reflectors for this. The DEs are 150w 20k. What do you think? I was thinking that or sell my fixture and buy some extra T5 retros to add in.

If it were me I think I would sell off the old fixture. Once you gut it you wouldn't be able to sell it anymore. As for your other lights; will all this be in a hood? If it is I'm sure you could rig up something to supplement the T5s and DEs, but you may not need to if the fixture is centered over the tank. (BTW when you say DEs you do mean MHs correct?)

Garvin,
Lvpd has a point about the old coralife fixture. If your new fixture has a good parabolic reflector then you dont need to worry about gutting the old coralife unit, because the light will disperse over the 75 nicely. But, if your not worried about selling your old coralife unit, and if i remember right you dont have a canopy to mount everything in, then gut away and while you are at it add a coulple extra t5 retros. Now that sounds like fun to a fish geek like me.

It does to me too as I like tinkering with things. And yes brad I was refering to Double-Ended MHs. Sorry for the abbrev. i forgot sometimes Im the only one to read my own shorthand.

One of the reasons for me thinking about gutting my fixture is on of my LEDs burntout(not even a year old!) and I was going to see what I could do to maybe even make a retro out of it with new wiring.
