Glenn, there is a lot of progress that could be updated on here! Pictures!!!:D

My tank looks like a dust storm blew thru it today. So no pics. I'm fixing to start some aquascaping and skinning the stand soon though. There will be pics of that. I guess I could take some pics of the mangrove garden, remote sand beds, and the skimmer pulling out tons of mud, but that's pretty boring stuff.

The mangrove garden was pretty sweet. Im thinking of setting one of those bad boys up. Even if they dont do anything, they are pretty sweet action!

That's awsome! how wide is it?

The tank is 48 in. long x 30 in. front to back x 25 in. tall. Oddball size.

R U going to paint the back of the tank? i really like the foot print.

Nope. I went with Ed's idea. I used dark static stick window tint to black the back out. When I added the water, you couldn't tell it was transparent. Looks like it was painted plus it's removable.

Not sure if it's better or worse. But, it does give me a larger sandbed, allowing for more room to place acans and other low level lps or zoas. And since it's only 25in. tall, I can reach the bottom of the tank without having to stick my arm up to my shoulder in to rearrange coral or rock.

Ours in 29in tall and I have to get my whole are and some of my shoulder in to reach the bottom. It sucks!

Just a little update.

Just a little update.

Here's a few pics of where we're at with the tank setup. Still haven't found time to skin the stand yet. Added sand and about half the LR in the tank and sump. The LR is nowhere near it's final location, since we still need to move the pillars over from the 80 gal. and rework them and add some demension to them. Pretty much finished with the sump. Just need to get the calcium reactor, carbon reactor, and phosban reactor setup and running.

View from the right end of the tank. The closed loop inlets and outlets are still pretty dirty from the sand storm settling.

Full view of the sump. Still have some work to do before it's finished.

Remote sand beds in the sump. We cut five gal. buckets down to 8in. tall and filled them with a mixture of sugarfine, fine, and coarse sand.

More remote sand beds/mangrove gardens. We used a plastic milk crate/file holder to elevate the rubbermaid tubs. Then filled the tubs with a mixture of different grades of sand and planted the mangroves. Simple, yet effective.

That's all for now. As said before, we still need to skin the stand, build the canopy, and start on the aquascaping. Right now we're just taking our time and letting the system begin to settle in and cycle.

okay glenn, you build a sweet closed loop. so what is that ugly power head doing in the tank lol

that's what is driving my closed loop.

I had it in there when I first added salt, and wanted it to dissolve faster. Kept blowing the salt off the bottom back up into the water column. The closed loop alone does a great job at keeping solids suspended, but I'm one of those impatient people.:fun4:

It's been a little while since the last update. Had to let things just settle down and cycle. The cycle is complete now! So this week we started moving LR from the old tank and the cured rock from the sump to start aquascaping the new tank. It's not done by a long shot. We'll probably tweak it a little here and there over the next few weeks.

PICS:
Please excuse the light sand storm and pvc sticking out of the top of the pillars.

left side. Moving the AC Jr. over to the new tank tomorrow afternoon, that's when the heater will be moved to the sump.

All we lack on the stand is building the doors and adding the trim. Then it will be time to start the canopy.

HaHa. Spike sad? Never. You should see him Kaitlyn. He has no tail to wag, so he just shakes his butt with joy.

We have lots of coral to add to new system from the old system. Just taking our time moving it. Don't want to have a freak cycle and kill a bunch of them. I've already shattered my big monti colony moving it. Looks like there will be several frags of it donated to the program. It's the green with light purple rim scrolling monti.
