Gyre 150

Looking for input on the MaxSpect Gyre XF150! Are they worth the $? I have a 250 gallon mixed reef, that needs a little more water movement.

What dimensions? 180's should be out soon. 2 of those should do it.
My 8x2x2 I run an mp60 on each end panel, and 2 mp40 bottom back panel and feel I could still use more flow.

I have a 130 on my 75 and I would say money well spent. They really do push some water. It's a nice broad flow that is far reaching yet not over powering.

Yes, it would work well on a 250 and they are worth it, IMO. Especially considering the Ecotechs are almost double the $$. I have an xf150 on my 110 tall and only run it at 30%.

In case you need more encouragement I am using one 150 on my Reefer 450 at 20%, it is awesome.

i have the 150 on my 75g at about 30%. really nice water movement and since i put it in, my corals have grown a LOT. it's really nice not to have to look at a bunch of ugly power heads!

On my old tank, I had a 130 for about a year (Got it right when it was released.) I've had the 150 for a couple months now. I haven't had any reliability issues with either unit.

Would like to hear how long you guys have these in action, any reliability issues?

I've had 2 of the 150s since Janary of 2015. The only issue I had was just recently the black wire covering on one of them split right next to the motor. Coral Vue sent a replacement at no charge.

i have a gyre 150 on my 120g and it works awesome.
maxspect improved the design of them somewhere along the way so most of the poor experiences are the 1st gen gyres.
as for water flow, considering it runs at about 30% in forward and 60% in reverse i'd say it has plenty of power to create extreme flow.

I have 10 powerheads for cross flow on my 220 XH perpendicular to the 150 Gyre which runs mostly at 100%.Some of the powerheads (between 1100 and 1500 gph)are intermittent and some are not.I like as much action as I can muster,to keep detritus filtered out. I had initially planned to remove the powerheads when I installed the gyre, but I figured it would be too much work...so I just left them, running.
As far as the gyre150 is concerned if you stare at the waves too long @ 100%,you may get sea sick. All my fish like this set up.

Are guys just running just the gyre for flow that's it ? No additional power heads?

I run just the Gyre (plus outflow from my sump, but that's small compared to the Gyre in terms of moving water). I have it set to pulse mode, on about 3 second intervals (run, stop, run, stop, etc. every three seconds). I have some Euphyllia and GSP on the bottom and underneath the Gyre (getting the return flow after the wave hits the far wall) and they clearly sway in the alternating current, so I know there's good flow throughout. And that's running at 50-60%.

I am running a gyre 130 on a 4' 65 gallon. I run two sea swirls with a large return pump. I love the flow, barebottom has never been cleaner. I took my two mp10's, offline in exchange for the sea swirls. I have it setup peninsula style, the mp's didn't seem to reach across the tank unless ran high. Sea swirls did much better job.

I am running a 150 on my 280 at 40% on pulse. Great water movement. I also have 2 powerheads on the opposite end of the tank. One thing I noticed with mine, is I need to keep it clean, otherwise the flow decreases. There is a noticeable increase in flow after I clean it about every 2 months. Just make sure you get the impellers on correctly! Money well spent.

i ordered it when it first became available. no problems other than i also noticed that the black wire covering is split right next to the motor. gonna call coral vue and see what they can do for me.

i have no other power heads and i don't see the need.
