Gyre 150

i ordered it when it first became available. no problems other than i also noticed that the black wire covering is split right next to the motor. gonna call coral vue and see what they can do for me.

i have no other power heads and i don't see the need.

Nina,
When mine split a few weeks ago, I just submitted a ticket on CoralVue'a website. They responded the next morning and just needed proof of purchase and shipping address. They were very responsive and had a replacement motor and controller to me a couple days later.

I just bought a XF-130 a couple weeks ago for my 73-gal. Once I figured out the programming I started playing with the different settings I started to love it. I have some softies with long tentacles that used to blow in one direction. Using the pulse mode there is a break in the flow that allows them to straighten out before the next pulse. Seems better for them and more esthetically pleasing.

thanks for the info! i'll have to see if i still have my credit card receipt.

Best in tank pumps I've used so far. I do love the Tunzes they replaced as the Tunze pumps were quiter and I feel better quality but the flow from the maxspect gyres are like nothing else. Plus, the support from Coralvue in the US makes up for the rest of the flaws. I know there's a knock off out there now but I'd still put my money into the gyre. I'm also terrible at figuring out the best placement for powerheads. I'm always blowing something over and completely dead in others. With the gyre it pretty much covers everything I need.

The new rugged props also make them a whole new pump. Coralvue doesn't say the flow has increased but to me and many others the flow has dramatically increased.

I have two on my 180. I run them one side at a time at 100% and controlled by the ice cap modules to switch based on the lunar cycles (2x per cycle like the tides and off set for the earth's friction)

If I didn't have mp40 I'd love to get a gyre . I think they were an excellent design concept and seeing them in action on bulk reef website looked awesome ...with the flow presentation video.

I think they are a smart product

If you ordered online you should be able to look at your order history and copy the invoice from there. It's what I had to do (ordered from Marine Depot).

Best pump on the market currently! I own a XF 130 and run it in my 120 and I can't turn it all the way up, let's put it that way.. You will have ZERO dead spots in you tank if you go with the pump. Way better then two Ecotechs in my opinion. You must clean this pump ones a month or every other month to get max performance.

talked to coralvue yesterday. she said proof of purchase wasn't necessary and to just submit a ticket. i did include the serial number that was on the box. according to her, there were quite a few instances of this particular problem with one of the first batches of the gyre.

thanks again for letting me know!

I have two of them. They can move a lot of water and reasonably priced, but cheaply made and unreliable. They require frequent cleaning to insure that they continue to run. Cleaning them takes quite a bit of time. Very annoying.

I don't understand why a company like coralvue doesnt beef up their product and charge more......this whole hobby is a luxury and most people here have unknown number of thousands and tens of thousands and then some high rollers with 100's of thousands invested.

The water movement is unique and full. why not create a flagshop model that really sets a new standard. Make it wireless. Give it its own neptune module. Make it sleeker.

They need to realize the field they are in. People who care and spend huge money and time in their pets...their aquariums...and they are vested and motivated to buy quality.

while mine is only going on month 4 and i have absolutely no complaints i would still buy a wireless upgraded model.

Coralvue is just the US distributor. They don't make it. Maxspect does. Ice cap makes an Apex interface for it.

dont mean to hijack his thread, i think my question may help. i have some cyano in my tank because of poor flow so my lfs recommended i get a pump, so i got the xf150 for my 180g tank. right now i have it on 100% the flow is great! the cyano went flying off the sand bed and even the corals look like they are waking up! soooo is 100% too much to keep it at? i see some people keep them at 100% and others at 30% or 40% i have a mixed reef.

i'd run mine faster than 40% forward and 60% in reverse if it didn't make my fish look like they were trapped in a washing machine lol. really though, many of my fish are < 3" and more flow just stole their ability to control themselves when they swam.

That seems like it would be pretty low flow for a 120. SkullV runs a xf150 at 40% with mp10 and a dc6000 return at 100% on a 40 breeder tank.
