I'm personally not concerned which one I actually have, as it doesn't matter to me. I took him for free to keep him from being killed during a tank tear down, and he's really thriving, turning nice and dark with bright purple tips.
My clowns still show no interest in him, and it doesn't really bother me too much that they don't care about him. They're happy, he's happy, we're all happy around here.
But since the question was raised about whether or not he was a Heteractis Crispa or a Macrodactyla Doreensis, I'm curious, and I know that there was a difference of opinion, so I'm hoping to see if these shots help the ID.

I've been waiting to get some pictures of the underneath of the oral disc and the foot/stalk. He's probably got about 4 or more inches of his foot buried underneath the substrate and the rocks, so I can't get a good picture of his foot.
During the water change today he was unhappy and he thrashed around a bit, so I took advantage of that to take some pictures of his foot, base, and underneath of his disc.
He has decided to wedge himself further back, so now his oral disk is extending halfway up the rock pile.
In these pictures, it sort of looks like his foot is in the rocks, but that's just the angle. His foot isn't in the rocks, he's pushed some rocks around and worked his way around from underneath the front of the big rock to underneath the back of the big rock. Still got his foot down in the sand.
Huge picture.

Another huge picture.

Funny angle.

Straight on, starting to settle down.

Top down because the glass tops were getting washed since we were in the middle of a water change.

He's angry about the water change.
I would have taken pics after we put the lights back on, but he decided to express his displeasure with the water change by pooping since I fed him a whole silverside the other day and it was that time.

Whole tank shot towards the end of the water change. Glass tops and lights still need to go back on.
Now you see why I have started calling him as The Beast. He's way small in these pics because he's angry about the water change and he's still huge. For size reference, the tank is a 120 gallon 48"x24"x24".
