wow! now i know for sure that i need more hieght in my tank. my pair has been dancing every morning for weeks. but i have know hieght! i notice in your tank they dance upwards and at the top they mate. what size tank is that? how tall?

it's funny... one time my tank was overrun by flatworms (fw dip ALL zoo's when you buy - i learned the hard way) and i had to keep my reidi horses in a standard 10g tank for a while. the column was only 10" high, and the horses STILL managed to get pregnant.

c horseman,
thats interesting as i swear mine are so activly courting it has to happen. im thinking the hieght will hinder but what you say makes me think. im thinking that eventually it will happen in my ten gallon too. nice info as many say hieght hieght hieght for breeding. good to know it plausable to get breeding without hieght.

The tank is a hex tank and about 24 in high. I have noticed they mate right near the top. They make several dances that start at the bottom and as they swim up they did the deed. Also, I had both of them in a 110 gallon and they seemed to stay away from each other. Once they were put in close proximity in the 28 gallon hex they seemed to increase their interaction. This is my first experience keeping seahorses.

i had a whole lot of chaeto in there for the first while to help the water (like taking up half the volume of the 10g tank). no pregnancies. then i took alot of of the chaeto out to put back in the main tank once the flatworms were gone. the horses stayed in the 10g a while longer, and that's when the babies came - once they had the room :)
