Hi, I'm new to forums. Recently got into fish. Got used setup. Came with 50% water, from sellers main tank.

My setup:

29g tank, 20g sump(no baffles), 30" Coralife Aqualight Deluxe w/ LED lighting with 2x65W: 10k light and 50/50 actinic (lifetime unknown). XP1 Filstar, 65g Coralife S.Skimmer, Mag 9.5 return, Algae scrubber 5x10" fed from filstar, 5500Kelvin CFL on scrubber, 10lbs LR, 10lbs oceanic rock, 2 inch sandbed. 1month running.

A few questions about light:

1) I had some problems starting up, 2 fish died from ich right away: Cin. Clown and Scopas Tang. Sad to see them go. Scopas actually jumped out of tank in night time.

I have had an H. Mag all this time. It was fine at first. Now it has become bleeched. I do daily feeding to sustain it, as I suspect the light is the culprit.

Would getting better light help restore the Zooxanthellae? It is almost all gone.

If I were to get new lighting, what could I get specifically. I'm asking brand and site, because I am very overwhelmed by where and frankly I do not trust LFS pricing.

Water param's are all in check.

2) My goal is just an anemone tank. As such, what other equipement am I missing? I have heard of C02 reactors, calcium reactors etc etc. . . I'm not sure what I need for just an anemone tank. Any help would be nice.

3) I suspect the anemone will die. I have no one in my area to help it. Should I let it run its life out, or should I euthanise?

That isn't nearly enough light for a Mag, would suggest 250 watt MH, however, a 29 isn't going to be big enough for a Mag.

The tang could have died because of the ick, but would have outgrown the 29 --- if it wasn't already too big for the tank.

What are the actually parameters?

How long have you had the tank? The tank needs to be fallow (( fishless )) for 8 weeks after having ick in it.

I wouldn't suggest that you euthanize the Mag, but I would keep a very very close eye on it.

The Tang was small, 2 inches. I was going to give it away when it grew up.

The tank has been empty now for about 3 weeks, with only the anemone.

Can running the lights longer, and raising the aquascape higher help?

I wouldn't run the lights longer than about 12 hours. Getting the anemone as close to the lights as you can may help.

Keeping a H. magnifica in a 29 g H is not easy. It is too deep for your light and too narrow. The anemone will be climbing the side soon if not already.
50% water from the owner tank isn't what age your tank, it is the rock and sand. They need to age for a few months at least to stabilize the environment of the tank. I think your tank is just too new for such a sensitive creature. Bleaching is OK, it will recover but you got to provide good care for it. Repeat deflating is a really bad prognosis.
Wait a few months then research and consider add a bubble tip (E. quadricolor) or carpet (S. haddoni). Carpet will eat fish so be careful what you add into the tank. These anemones are still difficult but not as difficult as H. magnifica or S. gigantea
Ca reactor is not need unless you got lots of hard corals and clams.

Right now I would recommend keeping your tank as is. You can get equipment at Premium Aquatics or at Drs. Foster & Smith, however, adding a 250 W MH will result in a hotter tank that likely will need a chiller to keep the temperature stable.

You got to choose what you want to keep first then getting the equipments for them. Since you already have a set-up, I would choose animal that will fit (not physically but light current and nutrient level) the environment that your tank provide

Hi again,

It hasn't climbed since I sat it down on the rock. I got 50% of water from old tank owner, as well as the rock and sand. I added the rest as reef crystals salt with r/o water.

If I was thinking MH, my local LFS is selling a PFO double ended MH 150W system for 350$ CAD with bulb ballast and pendant.

Also, those sites you mentioned do not deliver to Canada. Would you happen to know any sites that do deliver to Canada?

I agree with every body right here.Much more is needed to keep this anemone alive.Like ever body said they are not easy to keep.I had a pink based Ritteri alive for six months.
