Better Camera ..... Better Pictures!

Better Camera ..... Better Pictures!

Clowns breed all the time. You'd think just based on dumb luck that I'd see one of the fry .... jsut once. But, no!

My two Magnifica pictures taken just now with my cell phone. IMO, there are at least two distinct variety of Magnifica. One with short bulb type tentacles and one with more pointed longer tentacles.

I've noticed this as well.

I'll have to post pics later when I have more time.

Not the greatest picture showing the difference between the two, but it does show it somewhat....

Green tentacled, purple tipped, purple based "Twiggy" H.magnifica on the right, (long pointy tentacles), brown based yellow tipped H.magnifica with fat rounder tips on left.

the very aggressive skunk clownfish is patrolin its territory tirelessly, no one including the two males can approach
This anemone is essentially identical to the one I used to have

I have these species toughing long term with no problem: Magnifica, Haddoni, Gigantea and Malu. Only problem I got is when one get shaded by the other, but no warfare. This happen a lot more than one or twice.
Most of the time the anemone touch the mantel of the clam without problem but occasionally, the anemone would stung the hell out of the clam. The mantel retracted for a few day all irritated, then healed and then have no problem touching the anemone again.
Really strange right?

Weird.
Are you running GAC on a regular basis?

This runs in the face of everything I've been "told" here on RC regarding multiple anemones and allelopathy.

I rud GAC in the past but have not for the last 3 years. Just water change for me, 50 gal in a 500 gal system weekly. Almost without fail. I use cheap Instant Ocean and added Kalk and Ca reactor. I dabble with adding vinegar or vodka sometime, but I just measure out and dump it to the overflow box..

My mags, 15 years now

My mags, 15 years now

This is a pic I just snapped of my mags. This particular one (larger to the right) I have had since Nov 2001. In this pic you can see the mother which measures 15 inches across and the "baby (clone)" that measures about 10 inches across. They intermingle, wish I had a big tank where they could spread out fully. Since 2001, the original anemone has cloned twice. The first time after I had it about 4 years, I kept the larger of the two and sold the other. Then maybe 8 years ago it cloned again, and I still have both of them. I also have a two purple based, but their tentacles aren't the bright yellow of this particular clone, but their base is prettier. I've had the purple based since 2004 I think.
