I have seen a few mags lately and even the ones that look decent still have stringy looking tentacles. In other words tentacles are not fully extended/inflated. Other than that, the ones that I was interested in have tightly closed mouths and are firmly attached to rock or glass. So the question is, would you buy an otherwise decent looking Mag with stringy tentacles? I honestly have hardly seen a perfect Mag at LFS.

I personally would probably give an anemone a try if it is attached well and the mouth is tight. Not unusual that the tentacles aren't fully inflated in a dealer's tank where it may still be acclimating and the lighting may not be up to par. It's always a bit of a chance with these anemones, but the description you give doesn't sound too bad. Pics would help.

How long has it been at the LFS? If it has been there for a while and you haven't seen it deflate, it probably is worth a shot as Gary stated.

How is the flow in the tanks with the Mags? You gotta remember most LFS do not know proper care requirements for these animals. All of the Mags I have seen locally have always been deflated and it was partly due to very low flow tanks, not to say they were not treated but just a reminder that LFS do not properly care for them most of the time which results in them looking worse.

Yeah that's the case here. The store also has a nice pale lavender Mag that is so beautiful but its mouth was open and there appeared to be a tear on its foot. Its a true beauty. I'm gonna go back this weekend and see if it's doing better. Otherwise I might get one of the more common ones with green tips.

Well, I re-aquascaped my tank and put a bunch of corals on top level. No room for a mag. But plenty of room for a Haddoni or something else on the bottom of my tank.

Hey Corals - may I ask you which LFS? I'm not looking for an anemone but as far as I know there aren't many good ones in our neighborhood.

South Bay Aquarium had a couple [emoji1]. Edit: just realized you aren't looking for anemone.
I try to avoid buying fish there bc they are in poor shape most of the time. But the owner, Grace can special order stuff easily...but QT is a must [emoji2]

Check out this beautiful but sick purple Mag. Wish it was in better shape bc I want it.

Curious where that mag is Coralsaddiction?

It's the store on Century blvd near LAX. don't know what they call themselves nowadays. They are undergoing 2nd or 3rd change of management and re-branding. It's in the same area as sea dwelling creatures and quality marine. They have 3 or 4 of this color.
