H. Magnifica

some great anemones in that system very nice.

Thanks. I'm still holding out hope for the H. Mag. Just not very much.:(

I got it from Nolans Aquarium store in Lakeland. They had two on Saturday for $70 each. They don't sell very fast in that store, so he may still have it. They don't keep them in the ideal H. Mag environment, so if you're interested, you may want to move quick.

Might just be expelling waste.

Ya, but why to this extreme? I believe there is something wrong with the fluid within the anemone. He is discharging it and will most likely reinflate before long. If he is doing this because of an internal infection, there is nothing I will be able to do for him. If it is allelopathy, or some other problem with the water, a large water change should relieve some of his stress. I do not believe this is normal behavior for a healthy anemone. This is a sign of serious problems.

Let me know if you want to move it to another system. I will buy it off you. Can you PM where you got it?

If I NEED to move it, I have another system. It is full of Elegance Corals though. There's not really room for the H. Mag in the tank, but I'll figure something out. I have to much invested in this anemone to give up now.

Thanks. Its mouth has closed back up and he looks normal again. I changed 20gl of water. I don't think there is much more I can do. The wife thinks the photo period may have been to long/strong. The lights came on about 8:00am. All was fine until about 5:00pm. There are two 40W standard actinic florescent, 4 55W compacts, and one 175W 10K MH right over the anemone. I will see what happens with a shorter photo period on the MH tomorrow.

It may be expelling some zooxanthellae as it adjusts to the light. Did the shop have it under halides? Believe it or not Anthony Calfo recommends keeping magnificas under a 400w halide. The fact that your 175w is 10 is a good thing though.

Here's mine under a 400w halide.

I will call Nolans tomorrow to see if they still have it. I want one with more color too.

I dunno if it would be a good idea to move it into another system.... Moving it from one tank to another will only stress it out more in my opinion, if you think about all the traveling it has done in the past month that would stress me out as well.

No, the shop does not have it under MH. It is in a small cube under florescents. They may be VHO though. Not sure.

I'm not going to move it unless something catastrophic happens. He has had 5 days to adjust to these lights. I'm not about to make him start over under a new set. I also agree that he has done enough traveling for a while.

He ate again today at lunch time. :)

The Clown also found him. I was hoping he would stay in the carpet, at least for a few weeks.

I think your nem looks happier with a clown..so pretty..you must be so proud. :)

Thanks. The clown spends about 99% of its time in the carpet anemone. I agree that they look good together, but I don't want the clown stressing out the H. Mag. I will be proud if the H. Mag survives.:D

Looking good. I called Nolans and they sold the other one. It took me a year to find mine.

They get one or two in every once in a while. I'll try to remember to PM you if they get any more in.

Well He's still kickin. He has started eating the flake food I feed the fish:D . He seems to be doing better now that I am running the MH for 4 hours and not 8.

Those with H. Mag, do You have this much flow on yours?

I have just recently purchased one myself but the color is not as nice as yours. But beautiful the same. i am also interested in the question about the flow. Mine sits almost directly in front of my return which is a Mag Drive 18. it blows it like crazy but he seems to love it. Only moved once in the last 4 weeks I have had him and that was to get directly under my 250 watt halides and right in front of the flow. Eats for me every time I feed it which is about 3 times a week. Has anyone else noticed theirs like the flow that much? I have two percs that host it and they stick right with it flow and all!!

Mine is approaching his 5 week. So far has been happy with 2 Koralia 4's on either side of the tank point back toward the center and the flow from the return being directed along the back glass. It is on a rock shelf about 8 - 10" below the surface with a 250W HQI 12K bulb about 8" above the surface, supplimented with 2 32W 420/460nm dual actinics. Original had white moonlights one of which was directly above the nem, not sure if this was coincidence or not but the nem didn't seem to be as inflated last week so I turned the moonlights off. Was looking much better the next day and now looking great again. Not sure if there was a relation to the moonlights, but not planning on trying them again:)
And yes, it seems to love the high flow especially since it gets a lot of erratic flow being situated where the currents converge. The female Pink Skunk hardly ever strays from the nem so far.
