Hi everyone

Where did you get the adaptor on the output T? H&S use metric and we use imperial measurement. Any place I can get this? I current use a sponge to cover the output otherwise water will be every where.

One side note, does Brain carry parts such as the 1260 pump? I need the pump with venturi intake and output pipe without neddle wheel. I dropped and broke my pump while service it. As of now, it runs one 1260 pump (mine has two 1260 BTW).

LFS order one for me but they are closing during summer months so I have no idea when I will get a replacement pump.

Ted,

The liquid in Getwood's cup might not smell extremely bad, but what I get collected around the lip and the lid is reek aweful. I also have to scrape it off with a wet paper towel or toothbrush. I feed two assorted cubes a day. 1/2 a cube going to my 37g, and 1-1/2 going to my 120g with my H&S. When I use the cyclopeeze I substitute it for a whole cube.

Rappyfly,
If you pump housing is broke, all you need is a standard Eheim1260, and change out the impeller, impeller cover, and output tube. The pump bodies are just the standard Eheim. I hope you saved the venturi and output plumbing.

Brain

My 1260 even broke the impeller cover, all I have left is the pump body and output. I think the pump assembly come with the venturi and output part.

two questions, one post. First love my skimmer! It is a masterpiece! I have the 200x2-F2001 and while I think it is great I have a couple of gripes. #1 It seems when the sump water level gets about 1 inch below the elbows, the thing starts making a god awful sucking sound. Of course this only happens at 5 AM. I know, I know, put an auto-top off and I can solve everything. Well the wife has told me more fish stuff, less me! #2 Is it possible to run a 90 degree down elbow off the return? I would like to get the return pipe under water but before I start screwing around I figured I would ask for advice. Now there is a first!

phlipper, your first question has nothing to do with the skimmer. If you had a stable sump level the problem would be gone. A cheap auto-top off can be had for about $20.

rappyfly,
are talking about the return output that large 2" aprox pipe,I used a Rubber flexible joint what they use in the plumbing to join different sizes of plumbing. This works great because it allows me to use it as a quick disconect without having to glue anything to it permenently and it looks nice clean and professional.

I purchased a 3" X 2" PipeconX unit at Home Depot for my A300-3x1260 .All you do is just tightned the clamp on the 3" section over the H&S 2" return.
If your output isnt 2" there are many sizes available so you wont have a problem.
Here is a pic.

problems

problems

Problems with my H&S a110. I've still got a slight leak around the wedge pipe, but now i've got other issues. I finally got my fuge online this week and the ammount of waist the skimmer has produced has drastically decreased. I hope this is normal, due to the macro taking up some nutrients.

Tonight I did a 5g water change as always (i do it weekly) and I cant get this thing to skim right. It usually takes it about 15-30mins to start skimming normally after a water change, but this time its something else as you'll see.

So I reset the wedge pipe with the dots lined up and everything looks normal.

So then I dialed it in to where I have had it set all week and 5 mins later it looks like this. the number of bubbles is drastically decreased as you can see.

So then I dialed it back just a tad and I came back 5-10 mins later and it looks like this. Its got almost no bubbles in it as if the air intake is blocked but its not. I dont know whats up.

I've tried resetting it and redialing it in, but I get the same result. Can anyone figure out whats going on?

As far as the leaking, is seems that you have a bad 0-ring. Take the Wegde pip to you closest hardware store and get an Oring that is the same diam, but slightly thicker and lube well with Silicone Lube, your other oring might be damaged.

As for the performance, it looks as you are not getting the airflow you should. Remove the pump, soak in a 50/50 vinager water mixture, then rinse well. If dirt has got into the flapper on the output of the pump, when it restarts, it does not flow properly and does not allow for full air intake.

Rappyfly,
All the US spec H&S skimmer come with the metric conversion fittings. I source them in the US, but if you can not find one e-mail me.

Reefsalt,
I would take you up if it was watered down like other skimmers Nog ;) , but not from an H&S.

scarletknight06,

I noticed that when I had my fuge full of Macro`s(Calerpa) I had less skimmate, last week I pruned my macro`s to a few strands and got a hell of a lot more skimmate,so fuges does bennefit a reef upto a certain extent.

well i am joing the club. i ordered a a200-1260 today. should be here next week. now i have to get in gear and get my tank built and set up so i can see it in action.

Thanks so much Brain.

I have located some different some metric to imperial pvc fitting locally. And waiting for them to show up.

Looks like the local store must provide better service on the H&S products like you.

CAUTION

CAUTION

I have just convinced myself that , without control measures like ONLY ONE THAT I KNOW OF pointed out in this thread, that skimmers can and will overflow if you have ANY negative karma, have significant macro algae, murhpys law picks on you, ETC. If your skimmer never overflows during your reefing life consider yourself way too lucky.

My skimmer is tuned just fine - but this AM my Halimedia macro went sexual or asexual - whatever it is and caused my skimmer to overflow, caused my skimmer's overflow gallon jug to overflow and made a mess, using up all my auto reserve replacement fresh water, running my main return pump dry and water all over the floor

It sounds terrible but could be even worse.

I NOW BELIEVE THAT NO ONE IS SAFE UNLESS THEY TAKE ULTIMATE PROTECTION BEYOND JUST DRILLING/HOSING TO AN OVERFLOW JUG.
