a150-1x2001 owners,

Can anyone tell me exactly how high the return is from the base of the unit? I need it to go over the side of my current sump which is like 17". I'm finally about to pull the trigger on one of things for my 50 gallon reef. I hope it'll fit....

I didn't know that you could get an H&S cut down. I'm looking at the A150-F2001, but my stand has exactly 26" of room (so I'd have to remote mount it). Did you order the skimmer through Finsreef? If you don't mind me asking, what was the price premium for a custom order?

LOL, good question on the premium. To be honest I wanted it so it didn't really matter to me :D . I remember somewhere hearing 10-15% custom, but have no idea if its more or less. I did order it thru finsreef, shoot him a PM and maybe he can answer specific questions.

H&S Pumps vs Deltec Pumps.

I'm presuming the H&S pumps are identical to the ones used by Deltec. I just finished reading a thread that talked about how Deltec uses modified pumps, I realise H&S and Deltec used to be one. So does H&S also modify its pumps is the question.

Both pumps are modified. But Deltec claims that they modify the pumps farther than H&S. Nobody knows if that is true or not because if they do modify them farther they aren't going to release their secret.

I just finished reading that thread myself. Who knows? I've owned and do own both, and I don't see a noticeable difference in performance. Most people who've had experience with the two say the same. Maybe Brian can respond to your question about the pumps. I like both and don't see why people get up tight about having to prove or feel they have the best. It's probably because you'd like to think you do have the best when you spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for a pump and some plastic.:mixed:

I don't know what how each pump compares as far as actual LPH of air drawn and power consumed but I am "guessing" they are probably pretty close to each other. So that is possibly just Deltec's way of trying to justify why they charge almost twice as much for their pumps. But I've never used either brand so I probably should just keep my mouth shut anyways.

I've owned several brands of skimmers over the years and Deltec and H&S are the best two I've personally used. Deltec has been in the US market for a while, so it's very understandable that they have a loyal following. However, at times you have to put it in proper perspective; these are skimmers. Some folks discuss their skimmers like their defending God and country. It's one component out of many factors that make for a successful tank.

I have a A200-1260 which at the moment is running externally behind my tank with a maxijet1200 pushing water into it. I'm getting a sump, and would like to gravity feed into it. How much GPH should I be running through the skimmer?

It's rated for 300 gallon tank, and I think I remember that it should be getting 300GPH? Is that right? I'm trying to pick out a sump-return pump, and am kinda partial to the Eheim 1260.

Also if I gravity feed into it... how much flow will the pump accept though that intake?

Much thanks!

Alright, I'm in. I ordered the a150-1-2001 for my 50 gallon this morning. Thanks FinsReef! I'll have pics up next weekend.

that is what I have and I believe Brian recommends less - working with him to tune mine - I am running about 185 per hr but would have been comfortable with even less - I just hose the intake right where the overflow comes in to the sump - to strictly gravity feed the intake - don't know - but suspect the flow into the skimmer may be too erratic which is not good for tuning in the skimmer properly

I have a Eheim 1262 on my 120 - nice pumps - but how does your sump-return pump play into asking about the skimmers feed pump - if I had a return pump that circulated 600 on a 300 gallon tank - I might step up the pump feeding the skimmer - I use a dialed back Eheim 1250 for the skimmer (y's off to a carbon two little fishys phosban reactor) - just throwing out ideas.....

MGB stated that H&S and Deltec were one company at one point am I reading that correctly?

Yes, that is correct.

From what I have heard from various people is that the owner of H&S used to be affiliated with Deltec as an employee. They are not the same company and they never were the same company.:D
